Five years after Disturbed's crushing debut, the Chicago nu-metal stalwarts offer their third full-length, TEN THOUSAND FISTS. Reunited with long-time producer Johnny K and new bassist John Moyer (Union Underground), Disturbed's return boasts a revitalized edge. TEN THOUSAND FISTS carries the metallic fire of THE SICKNESS, perfectly balanced with the melodic sensibility of 2002's BELIEVE. From the mosh pit-inspiring title track to the provocative and socially conscious lyrics of tracks such as "Deify" and "Sacred Lie," it is abundantly clear that Disturbed has further evolved their brutal-yet-refined approach. TEN THOUSAND FISTS also features striking booklet artwork by comic book legend Todd McFarlane.

This is the first Disturbed CD that I have purchased. I heard a couple of their radio songs and decided to give this CD a whirl and I am very glad I did. The singer's voice is perfectly suited to this genre of music. He can yell, shout, growl, sing, and keep a melody going nicely. The guitar work is excellent throughout the album.

Contrasting what some others have said, this album by Disturbed is not rap/rock. They are rock/metal only here. Rap/rock is Crossfade, it's Limp Bizkit, it's Thousand Foot Krutch. But Disturbed does not fall in this genre on this album.

There is only one complaint I have about the album and that is that some of the songs do sound the same, especially after a few listens. However, the songs' lyrics are all very different, some with political twists, some with deep emotions expressed, and others just airing some opinions on society in general.

Don't pay attention to the haters. They just don't know decent music when they hear it.

      Another Album, Another Shrug

There's really nothing new or revolutionary with this album that won't bring back shades of Korn or Staind or the late 90's in general. Like a lot of current rock acts trying to find a niche, you get the feeling that they're trying to become more radio-friendly by having one or two really good songs and heaping on tons of filler. This is a problem when you are buying the album as a whole and not just a song.

'Stricken' is worth a listen but there's really nothing else to stand out. The slower tracks seem especially forced.

Much like Crossfade, Disturbed is just another rap/rock act that has yet to really stand out as something special. With this many albums under their belt, you've got to think that they may never get there.
