Album Notes
Lotion: Tony Zajkowski, Jim Ferguson (vocals, guitar); Bill Ferguson (bass); Rob Youngberg (drums).
Additional personnel: Joe McGinty (Wurlitzer, synthesizer); Julian Maile (Theremin); Zhao Gang (erhu).
Recorded at Big House, New York, New York in Spring 1997.
Lotion's third long player is called THE TELEPHONE ALBUM, but officially it's name is that little telephone symbol that's on the cover, sort of like Led Zep's "Runes." If you were to take a blindfold test and compare this disc to Lotion's previous two, you'd be hard pressed to find much of a difference, which in this case is a good thing. Hook after hook and melody after melody are delivered in Tony Zajkowski's relaxed and unaffected style of singing. Overdriven guitars are as likely to pop up in the mix as are acoustic guitars or even a Theremin. Lotion has been dubbed, "The Best Band Nobody's Heard," but a band that counts card-carrying-cool author Thomas Pynchon as a fan and card-carrying-kook Wesley Willis as a foe has reason enough to merit a special place in your heart.

Editorial Reviews
...an enjoyable piece of work from a band that never stops taking chances...
