Synopsis
Larry McMurtry, of LONESOME DOVE fame, delivers a rollicking and zesty Western filled with historical figures and larger-than-life romance and adventure. After their father's suicide, Nellie and Jackson Courtright make their way to the desolate town of Rita Blanca in the future Okalahoma panhandle. Jackson becomes sheriff and Nellie takes a position as town telegrapher. After Jackson guns down some bandits, the ever-resourceful Nellie prints up a best-selling pamphlet about the events. Soon enough, she's falling in love with Buffalo Bill, receiving a marriage proposal from an Earp brother, witnessing the shoot-out at the O.K. Corral--and generally romping through the iconic moments of Old West mythology.

Industry Reviews
"[R]eaders won't be able to help cracking a smile over McMurtry's 38th book, as purposely over-the-top as an episode of SOUTH PARK."

      Light and wistful western

This is the first McMurtry book I have read since the Lonesome Dove series. I can't rate it as high as the Lonesome series because, naturally the Lonesome series was a very INDEPTH story.

Book this was a light and wistful story. Full of cute humor. I think this book would be the 'chick-flick- of western novels.

The characters were believeable and loveable. The main character Nellie was a little over concerned about securing proper copulation, as she put it, which made me do the eye roll after a few chapters, but actually it was a humurous and NOT Vulgar.

The book invites alot of the true Wild West Outlaws in which the main character had a run in and usually gets the best of.

I would rate this book as a fun book. I usually sell or trade in my books when I am finished, but not this one, which I intend on keeping as I may decide to read it again someday.
