Teenager of the Year; The crown is well deserved
Review created: 12/12/07

I have to review this record because it is my favorite of all time. I may be the only one that thinks this. I love the fact that it covers such a wide range of styles. Even the B-Sides of the Headache singles turned into some of his bigger hits on later records(Men in Black). I love that he experimented with the synths. He admitts it was more of a phase, but I love it. Growing up a Pixies fan, it was nice to see him trave down that music road expanding his sound. If you sound the same on every record you aren't going to keep fans happy. It took a minute to realize the greatness of this record, but now I can't get sick of it, even if I wanted to.

  22 Awesome Tracks!
Review created: 05/10/07

Well, with 22 tracks there's a good chance somebody out there is not going to like some of it. You can't make all the fans happy all of the time. I think Frank looked at it the other way around though. With 22 tracks there will be something for everybody. I can agree with that. If you listen to this and don't like any of it there must be something wrong with you. As for me, I love the whole thing. This is a MUST OWN for any Frank Black fan. 5 Huge Stars.

  A new Direction for Frank
Review created: 12/22/06

Overall an average effort by Frank. This is probably the first album where he has filler in the work. Prior to this all of his work had good songs and after the pixies, not as good, but honest attempts to make music. This album probably should have stopped at track 9, but continues on past 20. The last half is weak and it appears that the creativity is lacking on this album unlike most of Frank's other albums. He seems to be experimenting with a mellower sound and getting away from the punk-based sound he had previously. I don't particularly care for it being a fan of punk, but others may like it.

Its worth buying simply for the song 'headache' and the first tracks are typical Frank Black quality, but you will find yourself hitting the next song button after about track 10. If you are a frank Black fan, this is probably not going to be your favorite album of his.
