  Lots of Fake clubs

I bought Taylormade r7 cgb max iron set; but it was totally fake. I know you can buy good or authentic clubs from ebay but you should be careful if the clubs are so cheap, new, and not be covered up to $1,000 from paypal. I lost $600 because my item was not coverd fully. Paypal covered just $175. I know that person who sold Talyormade r7 iron also had sold 20 more clubs. I was not the only one victim. Also, I know there might be lots of fake clubs because Talyormade r7 iron sets are expensive and tempting to buy. If you'd really like to buy this set of clubs, I recommend you to compare posted photos to those on taylormade website and to choose item which can be covered up to $1,000. Lots of fakers buying r7 iron. Be careful.

Most of R7 series are FAKE!!!!!

Be careful!!!! Significant percentage of r7 iron sets and drivers are fake on ebay. I'm one of the victims.
If the price of the cgb set is too low, it's a fake from China. Some of them are good cosmetically but you will hit the ball all over the golf course.
One guy in orange county in california got arrested by selling fake Callaway clubs. Now the police is tracking down the fake Taylormade.

Note to the seller: You know you have a fake one in your hand and try to sell it. I know you paid about $100 for that fake set. And the Law enforcement agencies will find out how you got them.

  Caution; Beware of counterfeits
Review created: 09/27/07

63 of 66 people found this review helpful.

I researched Taylormade CGB Max irons for a month or so, before attempting to purchase a set. There are lots of fakes on eBay, just waiting for the unsuspecting buyer. I emailed 10-15 sellers asking for serial numbers. Most did not respond; one responded they did not give out that info to prevent counterfeiters from etching the number on the clubs. (BS) One gave me the number, which I checked out with Taylormade. It checked out, so that's the set I bought. I paid a little higher than "average eBay price" but I got a genuine set. My advice is:
1. Read everything on how to look for counterfeits (remember, the counterfeiters are reading the same stuff, so they will get better or have gotten better.
2. If the seller is selling or has sold multiple sets of the same club--be cautious. If the guy sells 20 items a day, and has multiple sales of CGB Max's it might be OK, but if he sells 1 or 2 a week and most or all are CGB Max's, be cautious.
3. If the seller refuses to give you a serial number--be cautious.(I saw one sale where the seller disclosed the serial number within his ad. After checking his past sales, I saw he used the same number on a previous auction.
4. If the seller uses stock photos, or uses the same photo for multiple auctions of the same product--be cautious.
5. Focus on used clubs, but be cautious of clubs "hit once" or "used for one round" or "only 6 iron and PW ever hit". I bought a set of used Callaway X20's for my wife, and they looked significantly more used after one round, than when we received them. (They were used, serial number checked out, and they came with the original receipt from where the seller purchased them)
6. Be patient. There are lots and lots of sales for these clubs every day. If you are suspicious, remember there will be another 10 sets up tomorrow...don't get in a hurry.

Now about the clubs...they are fantastic. I am a bogey golfer which means I don't hit the sweet spot consistently. These clubs are so forgiving, even mis-hits are usually in play. Also, I'm still working it out, but I think I hit these one club longer than my old Linx Parallax. (I hit a 6 iron 150 yds in the air)

These are great clubs, and great bargains can be had on eBay. Just be cautious and patient, and you'll hit on the "right set for you."

  Taylor fakes

I also recently purchased a set of r7 cbg max irons 3-sw graphite that turned out to be fakes. I took these clubs to the local pro shop for authentication. They were so perfect that we almost couldn't see a difference when compared side by side. These 99.999% fake clubs did have some differences which I will list: the embossed RAC letters on the hosel were yellow instead of no color, the stripes on the black plastic finial are wider apart, the circular milled finish on each of the tungsten weights is larger, the fakes are are approximately 1 inch shorter (sorry didn't measure exactly), and last but not least the serial number on the 7 iron didn't match the set discription from Taylormade. Taylor said my set was supposed to be 5-LW steel shafts not 3-SW grafite. According to Taylor these counterfeit manufacturers are stealing serial numbers from display clubs in pro shops and putting them on their clubs. I suggest to anyone interested in purchasing one of these sets is to email the seller for the serial number so you can call Taylor before bidding. Good Luck

You would think I would have learned my lesson the 1st time I got burnt on Counterfeit Taylor Made CBG Max's....2 weeks ago I recieved a set of what I thought to be TM CGB Max's in a plan box from China after the seller said they were authentic with a serial number on the 7 IRON. So I called Taylor Made and verified that YES the srial number was valid...BUT the packaging and how they were packed was not...so I took them to an authorized Dealer and what do ya know...COUNTERFEIT...same day the seller ended up on the Tayor Made Website Counterfeit Sellers section. Luckily Paypal went to work and got me a full refund...I was out of $75 shipping back to china.

So i guess I am a gluton for punishment when i trusted another Very Highly ranked seller in purchasing another set...A flag should have went up when the seller had a pic of an 07' CGB max set but the description said 08' Model. I emailed the seller and he stated he buys from State Wide dealers and NEVER had any issues....WELL GUESS WHAT! I recieved the Clubs in a Callaway Box (1st Flag) Packed with Bubble tape and plastic (2nd Flag) and the way they were pacakged was the exact same way the other Counterfeit ones were packed (3rd Flag) So I began to get nervous....Could this be....another Counterfeit set.....Not only are these clubs counterfeit THE 7 IRON HAD THE EXACT SAME SERIAL NUMBER AS THE SET THAT WAS JUST SENT BACK TO CHINA!!!!

Seller refuses to refund money because he stated that there were no refunds. Well guess he isnt aware that this goes above and beyond a description in an ebay auction...Seller Counterfeit clubs will land you in the legal system and like many others will land you in jail.

Good thing the auction was PAYPAL Buyer protected up to $2000.

I am a long time ebayer and not once had an issue. I can tell you one thing DONT BUY GOLF CLUBS UNLESS THEY GAURANTEE AUTHENTICITY AND THERE IS A PAYPAL BUYER PROTECTION!!!

IF ANYONE IS BUYING TAYLOR MADE CGB MAX PLEASE ASK FOR SERIAL NUMBER....

SERIAL NUMBER ON THE LAST 2 SETS OF COUNTERFEIT IS -

70NA11CY

People, ever hear the expression,"You get what you pay for"? 99% of the time this seems to be the case. Ever wonder how these people on eBay can sell a set of clubs for less than authorized Taylormade retailers pay for them wholesale? Do you honestly think these sellers on eBay get a better price from Taylormade than authorized retailers who buy hunderds of sets? I think not!! Try to get these eBay wizards to give you the serial number of a set before you buy it. I have only had one of about 30 that responded to such a request and his serial number, per Taylormade Customer Service, was fake. He was decent enough to cancel his listing. Another note about purchasing these clubs on eBay -- If the item says covered up to $1000 or $2000 by PayPal Buyer Protection, DO NOT believe that you will automatically get your money back if there is a problem. Not even if the dispute is settled in your favor. All you will recover is what PayPal can recover from the seller's PayPal account. Do you think that anyone who deals in this counterfeit club market and knows someone is filing a claim is going to leave money in their account for PayPal to recover? Don't kid youself!! And even with all talk and common knowledge of the counterfeit clubs, eBay apparently does not see fit to try and control the problem on their site. It would certainly help if they would just require the seller to list the serial number of the set being offered for sale. Bottom line, BUYER BEWARE, IF IT SEEMS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT PROBABLY IS!!! Stop and use your head and some logic before buying a counterfeit set of clubs on eBay. Good luck!!

I am very unhappy with the process and resolution through paypal.

I did not recieve the item I purchased, I was willing to accept the clubs if the seller would reimburse $75, which they agreed. Pay pal then closed the case
and the seller has not sent the $75. I tried without sucess to reopen the case.

I will not be using e-Bay and will not recommend it to anyone.

The seller was rolfeks with 2 e-mail address' jiukou666@aol.com and moushi45847@aol.com

I have sent request for serial# to several seller that have thier clubs up for sale on ebay, have not recieved one reply with the serial # , i can only assume these ebay seller are crooks. Is there not something ebay can do about this situation? Reading the review it loOks like many buyers have been sold fake clubs. Also I think it would be a good idea if the buyers would list who they bought from so we dont make the same mistake.

  Do your homework

In response to the reviewers complaining about purchasing fake clubs, you need to do your homework. Taylormade is very helpful in confirming the serial number engraved into the head of the 7 iron. They also have a list on their website of known sellers of counterfeit clubs. Check the feedback on the seller, See if they have any negative feedback from past buyers. Look for a seller with a history of selling golf equipment, including the brand and club you are considering to purchase.
After checking these items, I purchased a set of r7 CGB Max irons and I love them. I hit the ball longer, higher and straighter than my older Taylormade irons.

I recently purchased a set of the copys r7 cbg max Irons on here. A few things to help you determine if they are fake. 1. taylor made never shrink wraps the grips of there clubs. 2. The numbers on the irons of the fake clubs are huge. 3. The taylor made logo on the hozel of the majority of fake clubs is black. the real ones are silver. The fake clubs are made from a different material and if weighed are slightly heavier than the real ones. Hope this will help someone from getting the shaft like I did.

IF you are looking into buying a set of Taylormade clubs, contact the seller and get the serial number first. Then call the 1-800 Taylormade number and verify it before you bid! Taylormade had no record of the serial number on the clubs we purchased. Also, if the price is too good to be true, they are probably not authentic.

I'm sure the real clubs are a great buy, just make sure that's what you are getting!!!

  A Learning Experience About R7 CGB's
Review created: 04/07/07
by:
19 of 20 people found this review helpful.

My friend bought a set of these and I hit them and felt that I really wanted this set. He had gotten his on Ebay and they were authentic. I put in a bid with what I thought was a reputable seller 99.7 feedback score and won. When I received the irons as soon as I opened the box I knew I had been taken. The smell of bad rubber from the grips was overwhelming. Not one of the grips was the same length, there was as much as 3/4" difference between them. Then as I examined the heads you could see burrs, light rust, and welding imperfections behind the inverted cone on the back of the heads. The seller guaranteed satisfaction and returned my purchase price in full very quickly. I was only out the return shipping. I guess they figure if only 1 or 2 in 10 can spot the difference then they are ahead of the game. I am a little discouraged by all the reports of a lack of effort by Ebay to police this and better support the buyers, but I continue to believe in Ebay and the fact that there really are a lot of good honest Ebayers out there but you just have to be careful. Use your head and everything at your resources to check out what you are buying. I was able to buy another set from another Ebayer and could not be happier with them they are authentic, however I went to my local golf store and also tried hitting the regular R7's and found that they are better suited for my game, I'm a better player who can work the ball. So I set out to buy a set of R7's from Ebay and BINGO I scored an authentic set at a good price. The Lesson?? Be careful and do your reseach.

Low rating due to FAKES on Ebay
Review created: 03/19/07
by:
19 of 21 people found this review helpful.

Now that I can tell the difference, I can clearly see all of the fakes being sold on Ebay. In my case, I learned that I had a fake when purchasing a matching Attack Wedge. The graphite shaft was thicker on the real one and the clubs was slightly less weight. Since I am not a great golfer, I was unable to tell something was wrong with the clubs right away. However, I did hit the ball all over the place.

My advice is to contact Taylormade customer service and request to speak with someone who can verifty the serial number on the seven iron. In my case, the serial number matches a fairway wood. The seller made a wise choice to refund my money as I did locate a lawyer in Taylormade's legal department that is trying to stop these fakes from being sold.

As for more good news, I did find an authorized dealer selling these clubs on Ebay. He provided me with the serial number before buying and I did confirm with Taylormade these are in fact the deal deal. The cost was several hundreds more but I did save hundreds off the retail price in the store. My hope is the ball will fly a bit straighter and my problem solved.

Be carefull in buying Taylormade CGB Irons on Ebay, especially if the seller uses a manufacturer picture and doesn't provide a picture of his clubs. Ask for the serial number. I made a bid/purchase of subject clubs and they were almost identical to the authentic CGB's with the following exceptions: 1.only one silver stripe at the hosel as opposed to two. 2.Clubhead was completely cast as opposed to having a stainless steel face insert. 3. Shaft CGB label was red as opposed to yellow. 3. No serial number stamped on #7 iron.4.Cavity was shiny as opposed to sandblasted. 5. MAX marking on face toe missing.6.Face grooves shallow and painted black as opposed to deep and unpainted.7.Letters RGS misssing from hosel. 8.Quality of the chrome plating and finish work is inferior and thin with spots of brass showing through. They were sent back charging fake and patent infringement violation for shipping across State lines.

First bought the set and registered the serial number. 8 rounds later the head of the 6 iron snapped off. Sent it to TaylorMade and they said that the club was from a distributor out of Canada who bought a lot of defective clubs supposedly not for resale. During the time TM had the club, the same thing happened to the 4 iron. I contacted the seller who promised to refund my entire payment. Guess what? They have the clubs (USPS confirmation) and never sent me my refund. One of the sellers lives in Mass. and the other in Florida and they work together to scam good folks. I have phone numbers, addresses for both of them and together with the USPS, mail fraud charges will be filed against both of them. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true on here, chances are it is. $600 lesson learned the hard way. PayPal and EBay are of little help so its back to paying retail at the pro shop, but at least I know what I buy will be legit. One last thing, some people buy up a bunch of legit 7 irons that have serial numbers and partner them with bogus sets, thereby giving you the illusion that the whole set is authentic. Crafty but *&^%(() dishonest!

  Feedback for Fakes
Review created: 07/04/07(updated 03/29/08)
17 of 17 people found this review helpful.

I am reading all of the reviews about fakes and am wondering why the reviewers do not name the fake sellers. Also, I have checked the feedback for the people saying they received fakes, but I cannot find any negative reviews. If I received a fake set of clubs, I would be leaving negative feedback as a warning for others. I really would like to try a set of R7 CGB's, but now I am really concerned about purchasing them off of ebay.

It has been a while since I wrote this review, or at the time it was more a question. I have since bought a set of R7 clubs from ebay. Actually, I bought two. I could not decide if I liked the R7 Draw or the CGB so I bought one of each to try thinking I would sell the one I did not want to keep. I ended up buying from someone with a very high rating that guaranteed they were the real deal. It has been two years so I do not have the dealers name or I would give it. What I can tell people that are wondering about the R7 line is this... They are great clubs. I was a high handicapper shooting in the 100 to 105 range foer an average round. I ended up using the R7 draw irons. I liked them so well I bought an R7 Draw driver and 3 wood. After two summers using these irons and driver, I can comfortably shoot an average round in the low to mid 90's. The R7 line of clubs definitly helped. And one last thing... I love the way the ball comes off of these irons. They feel great. And for those wondering about the second set, I did one of the smartest things I've done in a while. I bought my wife golf lessons, resized the irons to ladies lengths and she is using them. Now, on the weekends I hear "are we going to play this weekend?" Yea, I have to play golf with my wife more frequently, but I'm on the course more.

Buying them off ebay.... Do your homework. And email the dealer before you buy. I emailed a lot of so called dealers and if they did not answer my questions before I bid, I did not bid on their auctions. A honest dealer will understand why you are asking about the authenticity of the irons and answer your questions. Good luck!

I followed the tips from others who had been ripped off, SO I bid and purchased from a seller with a 100% satisfaction / feedback ! Paid with Paypal and got a message the next day that the sellers account had been hi-jacked. I was screwed. So much for these new clubs... guess I'll be happy with my old 96"callaways...and $600.00 lighter in the wallet. UPDATE !! Paypal came thru with a full refund, including the shipping cost, with no return address for the hi-jacker, I got a free set of fakes... I hit them ok, they are longer than the old Callaways... CBG' r-7s barely used for sale !! hehehee

I have recently purchased two sets of r7 Taylormade Iron sets and both have been counterfeit. Both were resolved, with refunds, one from the seller and one from a pay pal dispute. I emailed most of the sellers of the irons and no one would verify the authenticity so I can only assume that all of the items for sell are illegal. Buyers beware!

I bought the TaylorMade R7 CGB Max Irons on Ebay because I knew I could get them for less than I could in a Golf Shop. I purchased these clubs for $770.00 total after shipping. The same clubs purchased from RogerDunn Golf Store would have costed me approx. $1,180.00 after taxes.
These are top of the line TaylorMade Irons.... great clubs. I hit that ball about 20 yards further with these irons.

Thanks,
Scott

Yes, there are many sellers on the internet that attempt to sell bogus clubs, whether it be Taylor Made or other brands. I just bought Taylor Made clubs on the internet and have one very strong suggestion. Request the Serial #'s from the seller! Not all will provide it because a significant number of sellers might feel that the numbers could be pirated by unscrupulous people to aid in the production of those bogus clubs. However, many will provide the S/N and you should call your respective manufacturer to validate the serial numbers ahead of time! Taylor Made was extremely helpful in validation of all serial numbers of my CGB irons, fairway woods, and Superquad Driver. Good luck!

Mike

Simply the Best Irons I Have Ever Played!
Review created: 04/14/07
13 of 13 people found this review helpful.

Let me start off by saying that I am a 7 handicap golfer and wasn't really sure if these game improvement irons would be what I was looking for in an iron since the traditional line of thought is to get a set of irons designed for low to mid handicaps when you reach my handicap. I took a chance and bought them and have not regretted it for a second. The ball launches high off the club face, fly straight as an arrow, and are about 10 to 15 yards longer per club than my Cobra 2300 I/M irons. Even mishits get good distance. I have had problems with my old set hitting my 4 iron, I even gave up on it and got a hybrid. I don't use the hybrid anymore after hitting the CGB Max 4 iron. It is the easiest long iron to hit that I have ever tried. The only thing that some may not like, but is not really a problem for me, is that there really is no feedback from the club when you hit a good shot. In fact, there really isn't much of a feeling to me at all. However, I take this as feedback, because you can feel the mishits, and when you hit it good and don't feel it, that's feedback to me. I would recommend this iron really to all handicap levels. It has boosted my confidence, distnce, and accuracy and I think it would do the same for anyone who gives these irons a shot.

This review is for TaylorMade R7 CGB MAX irons new club. Not used one.

I purchased TaylorMade R7 CGB MAX irons club and I paid $510.99. The original price is $1099.99 in retail store. I checked up specifically before purchasing the club, for example item's location, email, name of ebay's account etc. But the item was fake. It came from China. I reported this happen to Paypal, it took to solve 1 month. Paypal only covers up to $1000, so I received whole money, but I should return the faked one to China, I spent $70.00 for the shipping with track number. Paypal never cover it.
I purchased same club on eBay, it was fake again. He is in the US, but an his agent is in China and he sent the item to me.

I tell you who want to buy the golf club on eBay, DON'T BUY ANY NEW CLUBS!!!
Mostly, it is counterfeit if the price is below $760.00. Because I knew the retail price. If you buy it under $760.00, the seller has a loss much.
If you want to buy it, you should ask the item location. From China, absoultely, it is counterfeit. Don't believe the serial number. A con artist steals it and match it exactly.

My member bought fakes for $600, I sell them for $1090
Review created: 02/19/08

11 of 11 people found this review helpful.

I am an authorized Taylormade dealer. One of my members came to me one day and said he wished he could have bought the Taylormade r7 CGB Max irons from me but the price difference was just too much. I asked what he paid, he said $600 for 3-SW. I asked where, he said e-bay. He showed me the clubs, they looked pretty good. I called my Taylormade rep and told him the story, he said Taylormade was aware of fakes that had come in from China buit were having trouble locating them. I did not tell my member he bought fakes because I didn't think I could prove it. A few months went by and I was in our bagroom and saw his set. I took out the 7 iron and compared it to two other sets that I had sold to other members. I could not believe it. The metal looked extremely worn and slighted faded from the chrome finish. I noticed something telling. The ferrules were different! All sets I sold had identical ferrules and all other parts.
Just so you know, I sell on e-bay. It has been a great way for me to sell my merchandise at the end of the season. I can usually get 85-95% of my money back by selling through e-bay. My advice, if it looks too good, it probably is! Please report these sellers to the appropriate authorities!
