Golf- Regaining My Confidence With a Long Approach Shot

When faced with a fairway shot of 200 to 230 yards in the past, I would either plan on hitting 2 short iron shots to get on the green or hit my 3 iron and pray a lot. I had completely lost faith in my fairway woods which were 10 year old steel clubs from a top manufacturer.
Although they were leading edge technology when new, they were too big, too heavy and designed with a V shaped bottom that constantly got hung up in the turf.
3 months ago, I won a Taylormade R7 425 driver and loved it and, more importantly, still love it after several rounds of golf...drivers have a painful tendency to cure all your ills for about 3 trips to the driving range and 1 round of golf before they completely abandon you to your old habits.
Anyway, enough background info on my decision to get on ebay and try to find a fairway wood to match my R7 driver. I didn't want to pay the $299 retail price for the R7 fairway wood and found that they were selling for about $150 plus shipping using Buy It Now. Although that is a great price, it told me that I could probably go through the bidding process and get one for even less. I found several with Regular flex shafts and a few with Stiff flex which is my preference. Within 10 days I had won a bid and had possesseion of my Taylormade R7 stiff flex fairway wood.
What a great club! I consistently hit crisp straight shots about 210 yards. I'm sure that the improvement is a result of Taylormade's advanced club design and technology....but from my perspective, it's a smaller, flatter and lighter club that simply nails the ball like I was swinging a mid-iron. The club and cover look good, too. The graphite shaft coloration and the red and yellow head cover give you the feeling that you have a club that is 'all you need'. With my Taylormade R7 fairway wood in my bag, I'm back in the game when I'm faced with a long approach shot!

I am amazed at this club. I have always had a hard time hitting fairway woods but this club is easy to hit. My first round I nailed a green from 230 out. My driver is only a 250 club. I am consitantly hitting this club 220. Love it. Looking at getting a 5 wood now.

For what it is, it's a good club. For me the club head is too small. I am going to trade it for the r7 ti 3 wood. It has a larger club head, and I will have the advantage of titanium vs. steel as far as distance goes.

Super, super fairway wood. Great size and weight. As for comparing the steel model to the titanium r7, I've tried both and really can't tell much difference. Heavier than a Callaway or Cleveland and feels meatier (and looks it too). The price is very reasonable for a club this new to the market, but for the money, the r5 or r580 will deliver almost as much performance for about 30% less money - and they both about the same size and profile. But, they don't have the moveable weights.

The club is perfect to hit off the fairway. But you might not want to buy this club if you are looking for 3 wood to hit from the tee box instead of your driver (for consistency and accuracy). Shallow face makes it very hard to hit if off the tee.

I have the R7 425 Driver, and loved it! and thought the fairway wood be just as good, and it is, to others who want a great wood out of the rough or fairway this is the best investment you will make

i used this club for 2 rounds, hit it about 4 times, although i am not a long hitter, this club would give me only half the distance and i thought it was funny and when i torqued the club i could see lines lenghtwise just below the grip, and i could see the shaft had shattered. i tried to contact seller and ask how old is this club to see if there is any warranty or maybe a defective shaft, but no response. the reason i bought this club is i hit my 3 wood (15*) very low so i thought i could get a little more height with a 16* club.

Since getting the R7 Draw 3 and 5 woods I can now hit the fairway woods straighter. I get better distance and I have improve my score. If you slice your fairway woods this will help. You may still slice a little but it won't be as bad as before. In fact you my draw the ball sometime.

AT FIRST IT WAS THE PRICE A SUPER DEAL THEN I GOT AN EMAIL FROM MIKE AND TOLD ME HE HAD SHIPPED THEM TO THE WRONG PERSON. I THEN LEARNED THAT HE AND HIS WIFE JUST HAD A NEW BABY GIRL BORN PREMATURE AND THAT THERE WERE ALOT MORE THAN GOLF CLUBS ON HIS MIND!!! HE LET ME KNOW EVERY DAY WHAT WAS GOING ON AND HOW HIS WIFE AND DAUGHTER WERE DOING WHEN I GOT THE CLUBS HE HAD ADDED A CALAWAY HAT FOR MY TROUBLES WICH WERE NOTHING COMPARED TO WHAT HE HAS FDACED IN THE PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS HE IS A GREAT PERSON AND I WOULD RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE IN THE WORLD!!! I GOT THIS WOOD BECAUSE I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH PUSHING MY DRIVER TO THE RIGHT EVERYTIME I WOULD HIT IT, I ONLY GOT @ 240 YARDS WITH MY DRIVER, SO I THOUGHT I WOULD TRY A 3 WOOD INSTEAD. I GOT THIS THING ON THE DRIVING RANGE HERE IN MYRTLE BEACH, IT WAS TRUELY AMAZING ; I HIT A COSITANT 280-300 YARDS!!! TOTALLY STRAIGHT WHERE I WOULD AIM !!!! I HAVE NEVER HIT MY DRIVERS THIS WELL, I WILL SAY THAT THE SMALLER THE CLUB HEAD THE EASIER IT IS TO SQUARE IT UP, IM A BELIEVER NOW !!! GIVE THIS OR SOME OTHER 3 WOODS A TRY IF YOU ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH YOUR DRIVER!!!! I'LL PROBABLY NEVER CARRY A DRIVER IN MY BAG AGAIN!!!

This is an amazing club that almost hits itself. It is perfectly balanced and has a lot of forgiveness. It goes long and straight with a lot of height. I have even used it off the tee and it flies. Highly recommended club.

Taylor Made makes great products. I have used their clubs for a number of years and continue to be impressed by their technical progress. The club is very forgiving. The adjustment system helps cure the dreaded slice.

I recently switched from the Cleveland Launcher fairway woods to the T r7's because I recently switched to the r7 driver. These metals are good. They get the ball up fast. Distance is a bit shorter than the Cleveland and it took some getting used to getting the ball out of the rough. Hitting the ball off the deck was a piece of cake.

easy club to hit ....Very happy with this purchase. All went well and the club is the easiest fairway wood to hit. Very forgiving and hit's the ball high. I was having trouble with my swing and getting a forgiving fairway wood. Well, I found it.
