While I believe that it's more about the indian than the arrows, there's no arguing that technology has made the game more playable. That said, this club head when paired with the right shaft for your swing will enhance your game. To be fair, I must admit to being a long time Taylor Made fan. I like the way their drivers look at address, clean, square, and not too big. I have been playing an R510 TP tour issue model for the last three years, and I was skeptical about the R7 425, particularly since I didn't care for the feel of the Quad at all. However, the 425 is everything that they promised. It is big improvement over the Quad. It is powerful, workable, and with enough forgiveness for the better player. Take the time to get fitted for the right shaft and to experiment with the weights to find the ideal launch angle for you. For me, it turned out that the UST Pro Force 67g stiff shaft, and a swing weight of D8 on the 8.5 TP model produced the best results. Have fun and play well!

svunderpar seller TaylorMade r7 425 TP Driver Golf Club
Review created: 09/06/07
by:
3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Club was 2 inches shorter than advertised.
Gave good rating for svunderpar(seller) for transaction.
On further inspection , found club was shorter than advertised.
Club was purchased for a for a fellow golfer and he extended the club 2 inches before he notified me.
svunderpar (seller) would not renegotiate after numerous proposals on my part.
svunderpar was not honorable or reasonable on this.

He simply had a club he wanted to offload because it was cut down.

I have 7 or 8 drivers including the TaylorMade r7 460. This 425 is a dream. I added two 18gram weights (available as an aftermarket item on ebay) to the center ports and the ball rockets off the face. Absolutely, hands down, the BEST DRIVER I've ever owned!

The TP rocks with teh upgraded shaft and teh 2degrees open face. The ball just rockets off teh face, feel is solid and the workability is amazing. I love this driver. 2 weeks after getting it I won a Long Drive in a scramble. The question was did I hit the cart path to get it taht far..Nope just nailed it on the screws right up the GUT..Give this a try and just pick the right shaft and you will love it!

I have been playing golf since I was 12 years old and now in my mid 40's. Ive played quit a few drivers in my time. I have found the size and harder titanium in the 425 really fits fits the eye I have tried and played with all the callaway, ping, titleist, mizuno. Just to name a few. The TP425 has harder titanium. When you connect or hit it on the screws!. The Tp 425 is the best in my opinon. One must rember you have to have the "right shaft for your swing". It took my 3 shafts and now I hit the ust stif flex. My swing is about 95 Miles an hour. So rember the shaft is the engine. Hope this was helpful.
P.S. My handicap is 5 and climbing with age.

Large enough, the R7 425 TP offers a forgiving sweet spot without the cost of 'this year's model'. Looks great and sounds and feels solid.

Tune in the weighting with a couple of small buckets and a couple of rounds at a familiar course.

The TP is open faced, so if you tend to slice the ball, opt for the regular 425.

Great club. Be patient working with the weights and it will reward you.

I have the R7 425 TP 10.5 stiff shaft. I'm a 17 handicap. This club hits the ball a long way. Most of my drives are around 300 yards, but I've found it to be very inconsistent. Because the face at the factory is actually set to, "open" unless you put a perfect swing on it its tends to hit a lot of cuts (slice). The TP is actually set up with a slice bias. Having said that it forces you 2 do some good things with your swing to straighten it out. Also very workable. Definately NOT a club for a beginer or high handicaper but a skilled player,I'm sure can make it sing.

I especially like the 425 head and the profile at set-up. The club is rock solid and produces long drives that cut through the air. I am very pleased with with the purchase and would highly recommend the club, epecially the TP version.

The R7 425 TP is a player's club. It provides a considerable amount of forgiveness without quite the melon-on-a-stick image of the 460 cc drivers, yet still allows working the ball. The interchangeable weights allow you to select your desired swing weight, and they do work for subtle (not drastic) ball flight changes. They do not correct for bad swings, nor are they intended to. The Fujikura Re-Ax TP Rombax shaft seems to be a better-than-average stock shaft. As with ANY club, the shaft should be matched to the player's swing for best results. All in all, a good driver for a competent player. NOTE - The actual difference between the TP and non-TP versions is fairly small (stock shaft, .335 vs .350 hosel, slightly open vs slightly closed face, weight kit).

  r7 425 TP Driver
Review created: 12/08/07

I buy different types of driver's that I want to experiment with to see if it will help my golf game that may be better than my TaylorMade R510 TP Driver... Although the TaylorMade r7 425 TP driver that I purchased was solid and forgiving but does not have that read "solid impact sound" that the R510 TP provides at impact... I still give it a 9 out of 10 in performance and I like the way the club looks at address... I will keep it in my arsenal of drivers at least for now...

This is my second R7 425; I now have both a 9.5 degree, and this 8.5 degree (TP version). I really enjoy these drivers. They set up well at address, and are very forgiving. The sound and feel of a well-struck ball are very pleasing, and the movable weights are convenient, and altering the location of the weights will change the ball flight appreciably. Overall, I would recommend this club to anyone looking for a good-looking, good-performing driver.

Good driver.... but... for only the right golfer

Club specs. R7 425 TP 9.5 regular flex. This is an excellent driver. Sits up well to the eye, has multiple weight configurations, solid feel at impact. I had played with a first generation R7 Quad for several years, playing to a handicap of 14. The TP's shaft is equipped with RE*AX/ROMBAX technology, which I have found to be a bit stiffer than the regular flex shaft I had in the R7 quad and combine this with the 1 degree open face the TP has vs. the 1 degree closed face the R7 has I found it hard to keep the ball from fading, no matter how much weight I transferred to the bottom. This club is for faster swing speeds.

Not very impressed with this club. Changing the screws drastically changes the ball flight but I'd rather have a traditional driver with preset weight.

For golfers who know how to adjust!

This is a super club. The adjustment to draw or fade, and to change flight trajectory is priceless. Only problem, you have to know your swing and what to do about it. The variety of shafts and flexes available is amazing, anybody will be able to find the right combination. There again, only if fairly knowledgeable about their swing and what to do about it. Truly a great club for better golfers.

  TaylorMade r7 425 TP

Used to play the original 400cc R7 TP but find this club way easier and forgiving. I did also gain a few yards with the 425. Overall the club is fairly good, but I thing I will pull the shaft from my old club, the Fujikura 757 speeder, and install it on this head. The 757 does give a better "kick" in my oppinion.

  Spare Driver I needed
Review created: 08/08/09

Right price - exactly what I wanted - wear was more than I expected, description was optimistic, but ti did not matter that much. It had been used more than the seller said, bottom was worn as was the face; head cover was in twice as bad as a condition as mine and I have had mine 2years; there was a tear in it. This was an extra to keep in UK. It came on time.

We had to also pay 16.00 extra for shipping when item arrived. Shipping was paid at 8.00 per seller, but when item arrived it was an additional 16.00 because of the post office of where it was shipped.

I like that this club was barley used at all. It looks perfect. I just don't understand why the owner took the original shaft out and put the UST IRod shaft in. Im putting th new Montore Shaft from Fujikura in it. Where I work the cost is really cheap. When your left handed it is really hard to find good clubs and I am glad that I found this one.

This club was protrayed as mint. I discovered that the shaft had been shortened. Shorting a shaft changes the swing flex (Stiff To Xflex)and changes the swing weight. I tried to contact Tomcat01 three times to obtain return information. I also tried to contact paypal to cancel this sale. I finally had to resort to contacting Visa and contested the charges. I had the changes to the club documeted by a local Golf Pro, Ed Chambell Babe Zaharis CG, Port Arthur, Tx.

  TaylorMade r7 425 TP Driver 8.5 degree
Review created: 01/16/09
by:

Great driver. The TP open face suits my eye and the feel of the club through impact is excellent. I also like that the weights can be changed to suit either your particular swing or the golf course you are going to play.

My other driver is a Callaway Ft-3 and I do like it, but the ball seems to jump off the face of the r7 much better and it is also more consistant for me in hitting fairways.
