Taylormade V Steel - excellent sound at impact

I am a 20 handicapper, and I don't always hit the ball clean with each swing. I can hit the ball better with some clubs than with others, and this Taylormade V Steel Fairway woods is one of those clubs that I hit well with. The club face is not titanium, it's steel, but the offset of price and performance makes this the favorite clubs in my bag. I can't hit my driver well, but I can usually count on the V-steels. It's a 2003 model I believe, but I haven't had the need to replace them. They have a classic look, and the impact sound is absolutely beautiful with power. These clubs should be in my bag for a long time.

I bought a used set of club and it came with a 5 wood V-steel, I was surprised at how straight and long it goes. I will be buying a 3 wood for sure. I love this V-steel wood.

The V Steel is not the newest fairway wood produced by TaylorMade but it is the best in my opinion. Even better, you can pick one of these up for a bargain price compared to the newer models. I have tried them all, R7 Steel and R540, both have too low of a profile which promotes too high of a trajectory for a fairway wood and is not easy too use off the tee, the R5 Dual and Burner, too large of a head, more suitable for the tee versus the fairway. The V steel has a compact head with a mid face height which makes it both workable from the tee and fairway and even the rough at times. The most versatile of TaylorMade fairway woods. Nice sound and feel at impact with a peircing trajectory and penetrating distance. The stock V Steel graphite shaft performs well. I would not recommend this club with a steel shaft. Performs far better in graphite. I would highly suggest giving the V Steel a try before investing in the newer more expensive models which are inferior in performance in my opinion.

Taylormade V Steel 3 wood and 5 wood
Review created: 10/18/06
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I purchased my V Steels around December of 2005. Within 3 weeks of practicing with these it has helped my game amazingly. I used to hit a 5 wood about 175 not with the V steel it is up to 200. My 3 wood traveled about 200 and with the V Steel my distance is now 235 or so. It has changed how I play short par 4's around the 320-360 range. I used to hit a driver and if it went straight (until I bought a PIng G5) I was in that awkward 60-80 yard range. Now I can use my 3 or 5 and lay back with a comfortable 110-120 shot and choose a nice pitching wedge or sand wedge into the green and swing full. The clubs have a great feel and a great sound. I play the stiff shaft and have really found them to be excellent. If you can find them get them, they will be a great addition. I paid around $100 a piece for these new and it should be easy to find them in that price or a little less. Adding these to your bag you will see a great improvement quickly in your game and especially your confidence....

  Amazing club

I am not a great golfer so, when I was looking for a new #5 fairway wood, I spent a couple of hours on the simulator trying almost every club the store sold: Callaway Big Bertha, Ping G5, Adams RPM, Taylormade R5, R7 and V Steel, Cobra F Speed, Cleveland Launcher and Nike Sasquatch. The V Steel stood out like a sore thumb. Every shot was up the middle and all of them rivalled my driver distance. I was wanting the Ping but there was absolutely no way I could pass up this incredible club...and it was the cheapest one of the bunch to boot. I took it to the range after I bought it and can't wait to get it onto the course. I just hope they still have a #3 and #7 when I go back 'cause I absolutly have to have them too!

If you are in the market for a new fairway wood that is both forgiving and powerful, then look no further...this club is the club for you!

I bought this club for insurance, I have one already and hit it the best of any fairway wood I have ever owned. This wood is no longer being made so I wanted a backup in case mine was ever lost or damaged. I now have every one of the v-steel fairway woods offered. 13 degree 3 wood, 15 degree 3 wood, 4 wood, 5 wood, seven wood, and nine wood. You will not go wrong using these woods.

Nice To Finally Own This Club!!!
Review created: 10/28/08

I had hit the Taylor Made V-Steel a few years ago while playing with some buddies. I hit it long and straight every time and that wasnt the norm with my 3 wood. I recently bought a used V-steel and have played with it several times and I am excited to finally have one. I have been hitting off tee and from tough lies and sounds and feels great. Hope this helps when looking for nice 3 wood.

TaylorMade V steel fairway 3 wood is awesome
Review created: 08/10/07

For almost two year, I was afraid of hitting off fairway with a 3 wood. My longest fairway club was a 19 degree TaylorMade rescue, but that doesn't give me advantage on the longer par 4 holes and some par 5 holes. So I decided to look for a 3 wood. I compared the Nike SasQuatch 2, Cobra M-speed LD offset, TaylorMade R7 draw and TaylorMade V-steel. I tried the M-speed offset and R7 draw first because I am an occasional slicer. I could definitely draw the balls with those two clubs, but drawed two much at times if I swigged aggressively. Then I found the V-steel. It is the easiest club to hit and it is cheap too nowadays. Even on the days I slice my driver, I still have no problem with the V-steel. The M-speed, R7 draw and V-steel give me about the same distance (210 yards) if I hit them solid. Without considering the price, I still like the V-steel the most.

  v-steel 3 wood
Review created: 02/08/07

I must say the v-steel is probably the best 3-wood I have owned, and I've owned several. For a reference point I have about an 8 handicap and my driver swing speed is about 105 mph.
My favorite thing about the v-steel is how square it sets up at address and the weighting of the club makes it feel very solid and produces a nice smooth swing.
I use a 3 wood alot off the tee, and this 3-wood is excellent from the tee. It delivers very nice distance and is very workable. I am able to hit a nice draw or a gentle fade.
I also like the size of the v-steel. It's not too big, yet it still has a nice profile as I do not like very low profile fairway woods. Even though it does not have a real low profile, the v shaped sole makes it very hittable from the fairway.
Best of all, you do not have to spend a bunch of money to own one.

TaylorMade V Steel Fairway Wood Golf Club

If you can confidently swing a club and feel the need for a fairway wood, consider this wood.

I have found the callaway GBB hawk eyes (original ones) very good in the fairway this club too, has a cut away sole and is easy to hit on the fairway because of it's sole plate. You can play a few different lies with it.

I do stress though, it is not a game improvement club. Game improvement clubs are garbage. They allow a golfer who has a bad swing in the first place a way to keep the bad swing going and hit it further.

If you can pick up the ball off the fairway, give this a try

I love the club I have and Taylor Made is not making it anymore and wanted a backup if anything ever happens to mine. Only bad thing was it didn't come with a headcover, but I have one already so it wasn't a big issue.

  V steel is great

The V steel weight fits my swing and gives me the best distance and accuracy
of any previous fairway woods I have used. I presently use the three, five and seven graphite shafted woods. I have some experience with a steel shafted V steel but I prefer the graphite.

Very well designed clubhead. The stock MAS shaft is below average though. I reshafted with Grafalloy Prototype BiMatrx and the club really came to life. High launch and low spin and can be slighly worked either way.

Ball comes off club face very solid but does not jump. C.O.R. of this clubhead is probably lower than most but I like this for distance control.

I disliked the fact that I thought the shaft was regular but it was stiff and that it didnt come with a headcover. I only realized that after I bid, so I contacted the seller and asked him to not ship it and re sell it.

If you are looking for a forgiving fairway wood for any type of conditions on the links...try the Taylor Made V Steel. I am a Golf Professional who makes a career in teaching and plays Taylor Made clubs. I have purchased at least a dozen of these woods for students this past year. They simply can't get enough!

  Great 3 Wood

I am a high handicap golfer I shoot around 100. I was having trouble keeping my drives in the fairway with my R540xd Driver and my local pro suggested that I hit a 3 wood off the tee. I purchased The V Steel with a Grafalloy NT Proto shaft installed and the results are fantastic. I have grteat control with this club and the distance is unbelievable. I am hitting this club 260-270 yards. I could not be happier with this purchase!

The reason why I bought the product is I want my driver to have a matched fairway wood and I thought it should be of the same shaft flex, swing weight, and manufacturer. I was really satisfied with the product I received.

STILL ABSOLUTELY without question the best fairway wood on the market. LONGER than any other fairway wood on the market. Simple traditional shaft and head size are very pleasing to look at instilling confidence at address.

This club is absolutly wonderful. It is very forgiving and workable at the same time. The club has an upgraded shaft, UST Pro Force Gold 65 R flex tip stiff. This shaft works extremely well for golfers whos handicap is in the 12-15 range. Plenty of pop off the tee and from the short grass.

  Handicap Reducer
Review created: 07/07/06
by:
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I absolutely love these clubs. I was a 19 handicap prior to buying the V-Steel 3 & 5 wood, now my handicap has been reduced to 15 in a little more than 2 months since I purchased the woods. I have never been able to hit a ball as straight and far with a wood before. I am the envy of alot of my playing partners because of the length I am getting out of these clubs off the tee and the fairway. I have since bagged my driver, why use it when I am getting 250 and straight off the tee with the 3 wood. I got a wonderful deal on E-Bay, but I would not reconsider paying full retail now that I have them in my bag. These clubs are a must in every bag, in my opinion.
