How to tell a Tour Burner Counterfeit from a Real One

I have become somewhat of a reluctant expert on Taylormade Tour Burner counterfeits. After nearly getting burned (no pun intended) by a seller who was drop shipping counterfeits from China I was fortunate enough to buy a legitimate authentic Tour Burner from an authorized reseller. The experience has left me much more aware of all the counterfeits on Ebay and how to identify the obvious fakes. The Tour Burner, unlike the Tour Burner TP comes with only 1 stock Taylormade shaft, that shaft is the 60g Fujikura Speedshaft with a checkerboard background pattern. It also comes with a Taylormade Tour Velvet lite grip, with no graphics other than the Taylormade name on the underside bottom of the grip. In their haste to rush out their fakes the counterfeiters used the graphics, weight, and grip from last years Burner in the Tour Burner counterfeits. All Taylormade Tour Burners with a shaft weight of 50g or 55g are absolutely without a doubt COUNTERFEITS. In addition it seems that the counterfeiters have not duplicated the Tour Burner headcover, which has white side panels and a large raised rubber "B" in red on a BLACK background on the head. Counterfeits either come with a red and yellow headcover without the "B", a red and yellow headcover with a red flat "B", or no headcover at all. (For examples of counterfeits go to www.dhgate.com and type in Taylormade Tour Burner in the search bar, which believe it or not is a clearinghouse for Chinese counterfeit merchandise).

Here is a description of the club specs for a counterfeit pulled directly from tradekey.com a noted counterfeit website, notice the shaft description:

Body Construction :Titanium
Crown Construction :Titanium
Face: Titanium
Lofts: 8.5° #8226; 9.5° #8226; 10.5°
Hand(s) :Right #8226; Left
Face Angles: Square
Shaft Flexes: Regular #8226; Stiff #8226; X-Stiff
Standard Graphite Shaft: TM RE*AX SuperFast 50 Graphite
Lie Angle :60°
Grip :TV Lite 60
Head Size :450cc
Interchangeable Weights: No

While there is no foolproof way to determine whether or not the Tour Burner you are bidding on is genuine or not, at least stay away from any auctions containing the warning signs I outlined above. Making this even more incredible is the fact that some people are buying the counterfeit clubs at auction giving the seller positive feedback and then reselling the counterfeit once they have figured out they have been taken. If you do buy a counterfeit please tell Ebay and PayPal and leave the seller negative feedback as a warning to others.

The real Tour Burner is a great club, don't get short-changed buying a fake.

Although the seller had an AOL address, the actual seller and the poroduct were in China. The driver was a counterfeit! PayPal was useless -- they required that I return the driver to China at my expense to pursue a refund. Instead, I went through my credit card and they completed a chargeback. When I inquired of EBay about the purchase, they indicated that the seller withdrew the offer as soon as I purchased it and refused to acknowledge it. Somehow, however, they have "remembered" the purchase even though it never showed on my list of recent bids or purchases. Be careful -- if you get burned, don't expect any help from EBay or PayPal -- they represent sellers, not buyers.

I have the Tour Burner TP 10.5* with Matrix Ozik stiff shaft. I'm a 4 handicap with swing speed of 115+. Switched from R7 460 TP 10.5* and honestly picked up 30 yards of carry and hitting more fairways. I still find it hard to believe but it's true.

Caution: Friends with swing speeds of 90 or less get nothing extra from this club and seem to loose accuracy. Maybe it's the extra length or the stiff shaft. We can't figure why.

My advice, if you have a fast swing or fast tempo you have got to give this club a try. I've tried them all. Nothing compares. I only paid $295.00 because I felt the $699.00 retail price was too high. Knowing what I know now, I'd gladly pay $699.00 for this club.

Another plus with this club is you can play any type ball. 2, 3 or 4 piece. I get great results with all. Paired with the Callaway Warbird ball I can squeeze out 290 yards carry

I own 2 of the Tour Burner drivers

I bought my first Tour Burner with a 10.5 degree loft and the stock Fujikura stiff shaft, after enjoying the TM Burner model. It did very well, and is the longest driver I have owned. My ball trajectory was a little too high, so I purchased a 9.5 with an upgraded UST stiff shaft. They are matched very well, and I love to hit it, but it takes some getting used to it in order to keep it straight. Once I figured out the combination of set up and a little less back swing, it is almost my "go to" club. I never hit a 3 wood from the tee anymore.

Loved the look of it and heard good things about it. Taylor Made makes the best drivers right now. I don't like how big the club heads are getting. For being the largest club, and the club I hit the furthest, it is by far the lightest club in my bag. The distance I get is amazing, but it is sort of hard to control where the ball is going. I think they could of made it a little more forgiving. Once I get used to it I'll be shaping my shots.

  not the one for me

I am sure it meets a good number of golfers desires for the aesthetics and feel, just not my cup of tea. The profile of the Burner with the right shaft in in is what I am hitting.I really did not want to keep re-shaft this tour burner driver to try and find the right combo. I have to do with all my clubs to try and get it where I wanted it, but I always try and pick the right head that will give me the confidence level we are all looking for.I will continue to play around with driver heads from stock to tour van issue.I guess at 48 and an average drive of 290-310 I should be content. Taylor Made has never let me down as far as their heads go, and like I mentioned, this is simply a "I have a do not like looking down at this head issue". I will add this now as I am sure a response from another purchase I made via eBay will be coming soon. I bought a set of used Mizuno MP-57 (3 Balls Golf) and re-shafted them with True Temper black gold frequency match shafts for me,assume combo. These irons after only hitting them a few times are animals.I was with my teacher today and was hitting the 7 iron 180 yards with a very comfortable swing 80% maybe. Bg

Excellent driver with outstanding factory Fujikura shaft. Long and straight for the mid to low handicapper. Side spin on miss hits can be a bit harsh yet the sweet spot is as good as they get. The TP model has lower profile with other shaft options for the better player. Match the shaft to your swing speed and watch your drives rip down the fairway.

The ball jumps off the face and has a great launch. I feel like I can't mis-hit the club. I have only been able to play a few rounds with it, but so far I am very happy. The style and the look of the club are great also.

Long, Straight, and good looking! The look of it alone makes me want to buy it. The streamlined look and the headcover look awesome. The club has a perfect shaft length. The launch is great and doesn't balloon into the air. This club is also straight as an arrow, but you can also work it.

Driver is exactly what I needed for accurate & longer drives. I recommend this driver to anyone dealing with a front foot/ankle injury. The stiff shaft and quality head are perfect when dealing with limited motion. Since having my left ankle reconstructed twice it has been a challenge for me finding a RH driver that works with my limited follow thru. After two years and 3 previous drivers this is the one I will keep because it works. No bull!

Love everything about it, average drive is ~ 300 yards. I was hitting a Titleist 905 driver from last summer and longest measured drive was 347 yards. But this Talyormade Tour Burner is great; great cosmetics, and feel. All I need now is a Taylormade putter to complete my Taylormade set of clubs. So far its is the best looking club and one best performing I've used.

TaylorMade Tour Burner Driver is so so driver
Review created: 11/10/09(updated 11/10/09)

The Burner Tour driver is a good looking and well built club. However it does not give you a good feedback during the contact, and head has too much offset make this driver easy to hook the ball. I sold on Ebay after two round and went back to my good old Ping.
