Great club. Easy to hit. Long if you can keep it in the fairway. Couple of buddies have tried it & are now looking for one like it. Price was also a factor.

  Best driver i've tried

I bought my friend's R580 cuz he thought he wanted a new driver. After 3 weeks and demoing 5 top clubs, he acutally asked to buy his driver back. I obliged cuz the shaft was a little stiffer than I wanted. So, I am looking on Ebay right now for a replacement. I used to be 225 yds now I can hit them 250 every time. An amazing club for a high handicapper not known for long drives.

my old best drive was 250. after 1 week with this club I hit one 280. Nice.

I bought this club in the begining of the golf season after Owning the Taylor Made 360TI for a few seasons. The Large 400 CC Face was very forgiving and so light. I use to be afraid to use the driver, now that is my favortie part of the game. I love to hit the long ball, and this Driver makes it extremely easy even if you have a slight miss-hit you are not 200 Yards off your own fairway.

I decided to buy a taylormade driver for the simple fact it is used by more professional golfers than all other brand name drivers combined. My reasoning, I believe was justified since I am hitting this driver with the same distance as with my other driver (ping) but with much more accuracy. I am sure it is the club because I always take both drivers out and play both drivers off the tee for comparison purposes. After getting used to the large head on the R580 I believe it gives you a certain amount of confidence even if you slightly mishit a shot. I am a big believer in checking where you have hit the ball on the clubface. When I do mishit a drive it tends to be hit thin (lower part of clubface) and yes I do lose distance but not near as much as any other drivers I have used. since e-bay affords the oppurtunity to purchase items for a fraction of their original cost I highly recommend anyone to try a Taylormade R580, you won't be disappointed.

This is a great club...plain and simple...I purchased the R580XD instead of a "HI-TECH" club with adjustable weights...I don't know about most amateur golfers, but my game is not that complicated...I don't need the "precise" changes that come from the movable weights...I hit this club well over 250 yards, and when I really tag one, I am right there with the big boys. I highly recommend the TaylorMade R580XD.

THIS IS A GREAT DRIVER. FOR MOST GOLFERS, , EVEN LOW HANDICAPPERS, THERE IS NO NEED FOR ALL THOSE INTERCHANGEABLE WEIGHTS. WE DON'T HAVE THE PERFECT SWING REQUIRED TO FINE TUNE A CLUB TO THE NTH DEGREE. IF YOUR SWING WAS PERFECT EVERY TIME, THEN YOU COULD JUSTIFY TWEAKING THE CLUB A LITTLE. SO THIS CLUB HAS EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO HIT GREAT DRIVES. WORK ON THE SWING, NOT THE CLUB. A GREAT VALUE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great club. Not too jumbo, yet large enough for a large sweet spot.
Got this club off of E bay "new" for a little over a hundred bucks.
I shoot in the 70's and normally play the Titleist 983K .This club has taken over as my #1 Driver.Extremely forgiving.
The ball litterally explodes off the face and is super long.I use Titleist
Pro V 1x balls that I also got off of Ebay.Used ,like new, for an incredible $ 9 a doz. Unreal distance.
I would recommend this club to any golfer of any level.Fantastic.

r580-good club for the straight hitter
Review created: 07/27/06

I went to a taylormade demo and tried all of the drivers. The r580 was the one I chose. This club is LONG. Easily gave me 50 yards of distance. The face is hot and makes great sound even on mishits. The only thing that I was dissapointed about was that my slice turned into a strong fade I think that 400 cc isnt enough head for me. But overall I love this club because the distance. It is my problem that I have a slice. Great club for a straight hitter.

solid, smooth driver. you can work the ball either way. The Fujikura 757 Speeder shaft is like a laser.. goes where you point it. No whip, no bend.

Extremely sold hits. You need a good swing speed, however, to get around this baby.

put my fusion in the closet

been playing an ERC Fusion for a while, till i got the 580 on ebay. first time out it proved to be the perfect driver for me. i cant say i stayed in the short grass every time, but i stayed in the mowed grass all day. i went with the regular flex and added an easy 20-25 yards to my drives and the improved flight of the 9.5 plays very well in this hilly country. its a great driver that id recommend to any average golfer looking for added distance and accuracy off the tee. purely a pleasure!!!

  Great Club !!!
Review created: 06/13/06
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I have read a number of other reviews about this club and they all just about sum it up. This club is very forgiving and when aimed straight down the middle of the fairway, it will drive the ball straight most of the time - sometimes it will go slightly left and right ( depending on your grip and swing) but land nicely in the fairway - 200 to 225 was my average drive before, now it is 250 to 275. A great Club at 9.5 with a stiff shaft. Highly recommended !!!
NOTE: This club does sit a little closed and if not gripped right it will hook hard left.Once you figure out where to grip the club( 30 balls at a driving range), this is not a problem - it will go straight. Again, great club!!

The R580 is a fantastic, forgiving, and hot face club

The driver has a minimal amount of offset which will help the average golfer with closing the clubface at impact. It provides consistancy with each drive. The face is extremely hot and the ball will fly off the face. The sweet spot is large. The TP model provides many alternatives due to the .335 tip. Other Taylor Made models have .350 tips. Taylor Made is the number 1 driver in GOLF!!!

Probably the best driver ever made...

This is quite possibly the best driver ever made. Don't let the fact that this model is a few years old. I've demo'd dozens of drivers and the R580 and the R580XD are the longest, straightest, and most confidence-inspiring clubs I've ever hit. Try either of them and I bet you'll never want to give it up. Like others, I wish I would've had this thing back when I was playing competitive golf.

Deided to buy it because of the numbers,58, I know silly and the other reviews to back it up ! Really like my new driver, can keep it under control in the back swing unlike clubs that are bigger, though big and after a couple of holes was hitting it as far as my brother who's much larger and taller than I am @ 5'8", ave around 250 yds and was alot straighter than I have been in the past. Nice club !!!! even used.

Wanted a name brand item. Wanted to see and feel the hype for myself. Love this driver. It fits me like a club should. If I could afford the newest set of Taylor made I'd be all over them.

Good distance with driver, nice head shape. Confidence booster at address. Love this club. Would maybe cnange the shaft. Would put a high to mid torque on it to lower the ball flight. I like a piercing ball flight.

R580 - Good Value for Money from Ebay
Review created: 10/17/07
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I had a Taylor Made burner driver and decided I wasn't playing frequently enough for something with such a small head. As such I looked towards a larger headed driver. I usually like to try my clubs before I buy so being as I saw this as a risk I wanted something cheap from ebay. I got this for around $40 in used condition with shipping.

I was not dissapointed!

In short I used to hit the ball around 250yds and now 300yds is not as much of a challenge. The thing I like about this is that it sends the ball really high. This helps clear trees etc although maybe a problem in the wind. The loft is 10.5 degrees and it has a stiff fujy something shaft. My previous driver was 9.5 degrees.

If you want a cheap driver go for this. It isn't the latest and greatest but it does work very well.

Tip: Make sure you get the conforming variant, checkout www.randa.co.uk. As of January next year there are a shed load of drivers which will be illegal for 'competition' use. Even the big name manufacturers have sold illegal drivers!

I received the club in a very timely manner. The seller was very helpful with my questions. I was very impressed with the quality of the club. My only improvement was a new grip...not because it needed...simply my preference. Would certainly recommend this seller for future purchases.

Ebay gave me the opportunity to buy a high-end golf club for my Dad at a very low price that we would otherwise have had to put off. The whole Ebay experience is capitolism at its best. Competition is alive and well and prices come way down.

It is a solid club but I did not feel like it was as "hot" as some of the newer drivers on the market. Nice looking club and it sets up well at address and very solid at impact with a nice sound and feel. Overall a good club for the money.

  Flaming Disaster
Review created: 06/01/06

I attempted to buy a Taylor Made 580 golf club head that appeared to be fairly priced and won the auction. Then I started recieving threatening E-Mails from the seller for non-payment! After lengthy E-Mails and phone conversations with both E-Bay and PayPal, the deal completely fell thru without any clarification form either party as to why the seller was not paid
or an explanation as to what went wrong!! The seller then resold the item and I was left to go elsewhere to make a purchase from another on-line activity that met it's agreement on a timely basis without any further issues! I will NOT attempt any further business with E-Bay or PayPal in the future and will advise my family and friends to avoid them as well!!

  R580 w graffaloy red shaft
Review created: 05/05/06

I have the original which is now unconforming and it is awesome. I have tried almost everything on the market and nothing is as consistantly long as the r580. I can hit this 300 yards regularly. Try to find one of these if you want one they have less grooves on the face and none in the centre of the club, the only difference.
