Great club for the better golfer

I will not give this club an Excellent rating, but I believe it does deserves it. I am an above average golfer, but not good enough to use this driver. I love the way it looks, so I purchased one. When I hit the ball just right, the ball flew further than anything else. The problem is, when you don't hit it in the sweet spot, you lost distance.

This club is a Tour Preferred model, so unless you are very good, think twice about this driver. If you are a skilled golfer, I bet this club is just as good as anything made in 2006.

  Maybe the Best Driver
Review created: 01/01/07

I am a single digit player. I've tried about every driver made but I've gone back to the R510 TP. I like the head size, the square face, and especially the sound. I tried the R7 TP but didn't like the sound. Too tinny. The Fujikura shaft is stiff flex, maybe a little towards X but it stays with me and I can hit it a long way, straight. I can work the ball if I need to but I prefer straight. All in all, this club probably isn't for the higher handicapper given the shaft. Maybe a little too stiff. When I got the R7 I sold my 510 but I went back to the 510. Maybe the best driver I've ever hit.

  Player's Head

Not a great deal of forgiveness, but if you can hit around the center it produces a flat ball flight that is workable. Absolutely won't balloon on you. Sounds like persimmon in that the head doesn't feel hollow. This is a hall of fame driver for a good ball striker.

  Best Driver available

I have owned a R510 TP for 2 years. It has 9.5 degrees of loft and Speeder 757 regular flex shaft. It is a little stiff compared to other regulars. I find it perfect! I like it so much, I'm trying to buy one for best friend. I also own a R7 425 TP, while its a good club, the R510 will be in the bag for a long time. Tony2putt

I've bought and sold several TP's looking for just the right shaft and loft. This club is, as I have noted on my own E-bay sales cover, the perfect balance of size and control. It produces a great sound and feeling when struck followed by a ball flight most golfers only dream of. I currently own 3 510 TP's, 3 R510's and a single Titleist 905S.....only 2 clubs can stay.....both will be TP's. Well worth the extra money, several shaft options normally available....always a really sweet deal on E-bay. Get one (or two) and enjoy hitting driver again.

  Best Driver Out There!

This Club is by far the nicest Driver I have ever hit. I have had one for three years now and recently bought a new one. I bought the same exact club just with a lower degree and a Stiffer Shaft than the one I currently own. This club has the best feel and Forgiveness I have ever felt in a Driver. If I Hit the club off the toe the ball seams to draw back in, or off the Heel it fades back into the middle. The Head is Perfect size at I think 390cc which isn't too small but it's also not the giants of the 460cc out there. The feel is great, if you hit a bad one you will be able to tell but like I Said before it may still end up down the middle for you, and when you hit the sweet spot you almost cant even feel the ball connect the face! I know that I will not be purchasing another driver until this one falls apart in my hands from beeing played too much. Highly Recommened!!!!

Quick side note... I have only owned the Tour Perferred Model (TP). I can't say anything about the regular R510 as I have Never hit one

  Great driver!!

The R510TP has a 390 cc head - not too big like some of the 460 cc monsters and not too small in my opinion. The club feels very solid at impact - almost like it was filled with a vibration dampener. The sound at impact is very nice also - more of a "THWACK" than anything else. It does not have that metallic "TINK" sound most drivers have nowadays. The club sets up slightly closed which is perfect for those of us who tend to push or fade the ball. Distance is great and ball flight will depend on the loft and shaft kick point. I liked this club so much in the 8-1/2 deg head, I bought a second one with the 10-1/2 deg head. I love this one too. I plan to use the 10-1/2 deg on hot summer days with little or no wind for long carries, and the 8-1/2 deg on windy days to keep the ball lower. This is a great driver and it is available at great prices. If you don't have to have whatever is the latest and greatest technology, give this one a try!

Best club I have ever hit. I bought a second 510 TP in case anything ever happens to my first one. The Speeder shaft along with the club head makes a shot off the sweet spot pure heaven.

This is truly a classic driver. It is long and forgiving, but, it is still a retail product. The r510 deef face tour issue model, with a true square face, higher COG and max COR, is the #1 driver. Everyone needs to realize, tour preferred is NOT tour issue.

  510 (TP) Tour Preferred
Review created: 07/31/06
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

These R510 TP (Tour Preferred) are so sweet. They sit up square, just big enough to give you forgiveness on off center hits but sall enough to still work the ball. When these first hit the market they were priced out the budget of all but the wealthy. The Speeder shaft may be a little stiff for the average golfer but it would be worth a few extra bucks to buy a R510 TP then get your favorite shaft installed. If you get a chance to purchase one, go for it. They are the sweetest feeling and sound driver on the market.

This club was made in limited quantities with these specifications, 10.5 degrees of loft and a regular shaft. This model was made orinially for touring professionals and has not been made for over a year. I did not think I could find one until it popped up on my E-mail after 2 or 3 months on my favorite list. I bought it immediately.

I am pleased with the club's performance and am certain that bad shots that have sometime resulted were the fault of the golfer...me.

Still the Best Driver TaylorMade has Offered

I have the 9.5* with a Fujikura Speeder and love it! Awesome head that doesn't spin the ball too much. High launch. The deep face allows more sweetspot without a gargantuan head. With the prices falling on these tour issues, you can't beat it!

  Taylormade R510 TP Driver
Review created: 10/12/08
by:

At 400 cc, it's a smaller head than my R7 TP 460 Tour Issue, no moveable weights, just a solid hitting bomber off the tee, especially with the 4370 shaft. Was worried a bit the R flex would hang out to the right, but no problema. Much better 'sound' than the newer models, solid no 'tinny' echo. Highly recommended if you're tired of the "mailboxes on a stick". Also, the price is very reasonable these days, too.

510 TP is the best driver I have used.
Review created: 03/10/08

The first TM driver I got on to was the XR03 which I really liked (but it became illegal). I replaced it with a 510 TP and have not looked back - I thought the Speeder 757 was always a bit heavy for me and immediately changed it for a Speeder 6.. I now have several as I play golf in N I at Portrush and in Spain. I have different lofts (8.5 and 9.5) with ACCRA 4 or 5 stiff grahite shafts to allow for the vagaries of my swing, the heat and the degree of wind.

It can never be the clubs fault!!

This is truly a players club
Review created: 12/26/07
by:

Single digit former college golfer...I've hit them all. R510 TP is not hyperbole...it is one of the most consistently solid drivers to ever hit the market. Have both a retail TP and a Tour Van TP. Retail is solid...work ball both ways, hit low, high. Tour Van is a bazooka on a stick...center face contact sounds and feels like a safe door swinging shut. By the way, R510 TPs don't ping or ting or sound like kicking an oil drum...just a thwock and look WAY down the fairway. No ballooning, no "weight induced" hook.

If you're looking for a driver that delivers more than promised, doesn't resemble some garden implement stuck on a four-foot long stick, and relish the feel and look of a well-struck,properly shaped and flighted shot, this is your club. Proper shaft fitting is paramount to good ball flight...have one on the Fuji Vista Tour, one on a Graman Limey Ultimate G.

With due diligence of your e-bay merchant, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better performing value for your money than the R510 TP.

  Taylormade R510 TP 8.5 Driver
Review created: 09/01/07(updated 09/01/07)
by:

With the taller clubface and slightly bigger size, the TP inspires plenty of confidence at address on the tee. I play against a lot of guys swinging R7's, G5's and have no problem keeping up and outdriving most all of them. The club has a great feel on impact. drives the ball deep and has great bounce and roll at the end for killer distance. Had been playing the regular 510 and played well, but had a desire to try something a little bigger but did not want to go all the way to the 460cc drivers on the market today. At 390cc, the TP is just big enough for plenty of room on the clubface for a large sweetspot but not the "grapefruit on a stick" look of some of the new drivers. This provides a great deal of forgiveness, with miss hits still having great carry but keeping them from traveling wildly left or right. Still a very workable club like its smaller version, can be played for a draw, fade or dead straight down the middle. Simply a great club that has great looks, feel and performance that will take something short of a second coming to get it out of my bag.

  awesome!!!great deal!!!!!!!!!!
Review created: 07/05/07(updated 07/20/07)

The price was right. I feel that the r7 would be a better fit for my golf swing. I seemed to hit the ball to the right. I hit the ball very long, but not as accurate as I had wished.
