Top Reviews TaylorMade 2009 Burner IronsReview created: 10/30/09  10 of 11 people found this review helpful. I assume a lot of the negatives regarding this set must be due to the stock shafts??? I can not stress enough that you should always demo clubs and get fitted before buying a set of golf clubs... I personally tend to only use Project X and Dynamic Gold shafts and they usually weigh 120+ grams... with that said the stock shaft in the 2009 Burner did not perform well for me... I always love trying out new clubs and read all about the new KBS shafts... TaylorMade offered them as an upgrade so I decided to try/demo the new Burner with the KBS Tour stiff flex shafts... To make a long story short I got on eBay after hitting my demo club and bought a set to play the second half of this year... I have not been disappointed!!! The Burner fitted with a top of the line KBS shaft outperformed both my Titleist sets with Project X shafts... I ended up selling all of my Titleist irons, hybrids, and wedges... Switched to the TaylorMade Burner line with all KBS Tour shafts... I have since lowered my handicap another 4 strokes!!! Performance: I have seen more of a consistent mid/high ball flight with this combination and a gain of almost 10 yards in distance... I have my clubs at standard club lengths which is shorter than the listed lengths of the stock TM Burner shafts... The heads are not big and bulky like most game improvement irons... I was able to work the ball and on an occasional mishit the set was very forgiving... The only issue I have had is actually been with the longer irons in the set because they are more off set than the rest of the clubs... after a few adjustments and course time I have no complaints... Some may ask why I did not try the Titleist sets with the KBS shafts... The reason is mainly due to durability/wear because both AP iron sets are very soft and after only 15 rounds they looked like a 2-year-old set of clubs... The price tag of the Titleist set was not worth it in the long run... With all of that said two of my regular golf buddies have since tried my clubs and have them on order as we speak... If you have an opportunity to demo this club or any club with the new KBS shaft, I highly recommend that you do!!! Review ID: 10000000014012382 Was this review helpful? I've got to tell you these feel average to me at best. I didn't pick up any distance (7 iron = 145 Yards. I did hit these very straight. The forgiveness is good, but not great. The longer 4 & 5 irons are hitable, but I still prefer my hybrids. Previously used Wilson Ci7's. I'm going for Mizuno MX200's. Review ID: 10000000012141364 Was this review helpful?
