Taxi Driver (2007, DVD)
One of Scorsese's best efforts. He also has a great cameo appearance that is quite disturbing, which keeps in context with the theme of the film. A glimps into the mind of Viet Nam vet Travis Bickle (Robert DeNiro), in mid-1970's New York City. A loner who has disdain for all the 'scum' he finds himself surrounded by, despite the fact that he is a frequent porn theater patron. He falls hard for presidential campaign worker Betsy (Sybill Shepard),the one pure thing he finds in the city, who spurns his affections after he takes her, on their first date to a pornograghic movie - the only type he knows. Betsy's rejection of him begins his true decent into madness, with violent results. Nice little twist at the end provides media redemption for Bickle. Jodie Foster co-stars as Iris a pre-pubescent prostitute and Harvey Keitel as her pimp.
