Other reviewers have said that the artists here have done very good renditions of these familiar songs. Well, that is not strictly true. They are all competent renditions but half of them are not very good. If soulfully wailing your way through a number is regarded as good in your book then you might actually enjoy this album. But it's not an improvement.
Carole's Tapestry album is a superb classic and, let's face it, it is almost impossible to improve on her original versions of those fine collection of songs. The artists concerned here seem to have wanted to impose their own twists to these numbers. Few have succeeded. Half the tracks are perfectly acceptable and half are just not up to standard.
Carole King can sing in tune. After all, she wrote the tunes in the first place. Then along come a few practicioners of the soul sound, who cannot maintain a note, so they wobble through the song, destroying it in the process. I bought this album in the hope that as all the songs are excellent it would be hard to destroy them. Half these artists cannot cut the mustard, so I'm giving this effort just 2/5. Buy Carole King's original - it is much better.
