Great wholesome Christian novel. Many twists and turns. The story doesn't turn out the way you would expect. The heroine is a young, indulged but strong Southern Belle. She became a Christian as a young girl sitting on her Grandmother's knee. This book deals with the details of being married off as part of a trade agreement between her father a cotton planation owner and Cotton mill owners in the north. As a result, she begins to question her beliefs. Through various hardships, she learns to become stronger. There are a few stories going on in the background of her life. Peterson and Miller do a fantastic job developing all the characters in the book.
If there are any faults with this book they would be: Being from the Deep South myself, there are a couple of details that were a little hard for me to accept. Would the heroine really move north and be fairly happy even in the winter? (I'm not) Would Yankees and Plantation owners really negotiate so easily and so pleasantly? But I'm not a expert on these things either.
