Publisher's Note After witnessing the killing of his father in a politically motivated power play by the local mayor, young Dan Nguyen is sworn to avenge his father's death and masquerades as a servant in his enemy's house to protect himself, but his revenge is undermined by his growing love for his enemy's beautiful granddaughter, in a vivid novel set in turn-of-the-century Vietnam. A first novel.
Industry Reviews "A fablelike tale set in turn-of-the-century Vietnam offers intrigue, revenge, a treasure map, and undying love....Nguyen's first fiction works best when confined to the more intimate aspects of its character's lives." Kirkus Reviews (08/15/2002)
