  Nice Lens for the Price

I bought this lens to supplement my Tamron 28-200 f/4-5.6 lens, and it does its job very well. Even without additional stabilization, I've been able to get some very good hand-held photos of moving wildlife (like photographing diving whales from a boat) at 300mm - when the light was good. In low light (as in trying to photograph a full moon), the lens isn't nearly as good. It has to search a lot to autofocus at times in low light. I've had no problem with either aberation or vigneting with the lens. pretty much mandatory at low shutter speeds, for the lens isn't particularly fast....but it's not particularly soft, either. The motor isn't all that noisy, and I've had no mechanical problems with the lens. I "baby" all of my lenses, though. I don't know if this lens will meet your needs, but I like mine.

A Decent Basic Telephoto Zoom Lens
Review created: 03/28/07

If you're new to SLR photography and are looking for a reasonably priced telephoto lens, consider this lens from Tamron.

This lens is fairly well built, and can be found for under $200. I've used this lens mainly for hand held sports and wildlife photography during daytime conditions. In most situations this lens will deliver excellent pictures, but chromatic aberration is noticeable at times (this is a problem so some extent with any lens).

This lens also comes with a "Macro" feature that reduces the minimum focusing distance significantly allowing you to capture close up shots of plants and flowers...There are times when it comes in handy.

I used this lens for the first 8 months I had my dSLR, before upgrading to a larger and much more expensive telephoto zoom lens. Nevertheless this lens will serve you well as an introduction to telephoto photography, and may suffice in the long term depending on what you want to do with it.

Capture great long shots with affordable lens

A really great alternative to pricey Nikkor lens of same focal length. Works great with Nikon autofocus cameras and is surprisingly fast in daylight. Does get slow in low light situations. Couldn't have afforded the same lens in a Nikkor, so very pleased with overall performance of this lens.

  Great lens

I bought this lens knowing that it did not have VR or optical stabilization. As long as a tripod is used at the 300mm end it is great. In bright sunlight it can be handheld without problems. Focus is fast and accurate. Images are tack sharp. I am using this lens on a Nikon D40. At $90 on ebay this was a great buy. Dan

  Great Lense - Great Value
Review created: 11/03/08

I had seen the Tamron lense advertized in a scrapbooking magazine, so I did a little research on it. It was very affordable, so I decided to buy one. It is a very easy lense to use (even without reading the directions). The clarity of the pictures are unbelievable, and you can really get a close shot. I would tell others to buy this lense.

  Greatest Lens! (So Far Atleast)

After purchasing this item, I couldn't wait for it to arrive, and when it had I had already taken almost 100 pictures with it the next day! This camera is excellent. http://maloneymedia.org/upload/files/Picture_1_02.png is a sample picture I took the same day the camera ARRIVED. This is probably the best thing I ever bought in my life, and it's something that i'll use for a very long time as photography has always interested me! The lens works better then I could have ever imagined.

Excellent lense for the non pro

This lense is incredible. I am a hobby photographer. I don"t even know how to use all the settings, but I did not need them. This lense is light, fast mopving for action shots. I used last month at the drag races. I felt like a pro. At about 1/2 track(500ft) I was able to zoom in on the cars as if I were 30 feet away. This lense fits my Nikon D-40. The con for this lense are "none".

Tamron Zoom AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 LD Macro lens

The compact size of this zoom lens is a plus, especially if you are carrying an oversized gadget bag. The weight is also a BIG plus. For function and price, one could not do better as compared to the big name products available. The guarantee is good and item is well packaged for shipment from manufacturer.
Unless one is a pro photographer, this lens will do all that the average shooter wants and then some.
This product is highly recommended by this writer.

  Tamron zoom tele-photo lens

This is a great tele-photo lens for the amateaur photographer. It is a great upgrade from the 18-55mm lens that comes standard with the d40.The af motor is a little noisey but thats no big deal and of course you cant shoot closer than about 4 feet again this is no big deal you just need to be prepared to change back to the standard 18-55mm for real close ups. The bottom line is its a great lens for the price comparable to 400+ dollar lens. The macro auto focus is a great feature also.

  Wildlife Lens
Review created: 01/12/09
by:
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I did some research into a good wildlife lens and came upon this lens. I really disliked it at first because I didn't have any instructions. I stuck w/it and have achieved some amazing photos. I do not find it nosiy, and do have some lens flare (sorry, don't know what this is called). I was surprised at the slowness of the lens. However, with practice this can be overcome w/0 any serious issues. I would buy it again. I shoot birds in flight mainly, and it serves my purposes well. I'm still learning the marco side, but am hopeful it will meet my needs here as well. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/tede/3190679194/&quot; title="Taking Flight by tede1207, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3448/3190679194_8e874424ce_o.jpg" width="640" height="638" alt="Taking Flight" /></a>

  Nikon Lens Review
Review created: 01/09/09
by:
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I have taken up outdoor photography as a hobby and needed a longer lens. I can not afford the big glass that the pros use and have to compromise. This zoom is filling this role very well. I am getting the close shots of the birds at my feeder easily with this lens. I use a hunting blind to hide in that gets me pretty close and the lens does the rest.

Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 LD Macro
Review created: 11/05/08
by:
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I bought this lens because it's cheap. It's a solid lens. It goes from 70 - 300mm but macro only works from 180 to 300mm. The picture quality is pretty good. Autofocus is slow and noisy. The front of the lens rotates when focusing, it could be a problem when using polarizer. Beside that, it's a cheap and solid lens for beginner into macro photography.

  Tamron 70-300mm lense
Review created: 08/14/09
by:

I love how this lens is lightweight and cost a fraction of the brandname Nikon lense. It was a third of the price and it does an exceptional job! This is the 2nd Tamron lense I have purchased. I loved my 1st and just upgraded to a new Nikon. I got a new Nikon D5000 and am using this lense with this model and am loving it as much if not MORE than the last. Great value...great lens:)
