Robben Ford's second solo effort 'Talk to Your Daughter' is a highly listenable CD from this legendary California guitarist. This lively CD ducks & sways like a skilled boxer during a bout as Robben dances through utterly delightful blues, rock & jazz tunes. Robben Ford has played with nearly everyone in the music business over the years, lending his expert guitar skills to artists such as: Joni Mitchell, Little Feat, David Sanborn, and Jazz Great Miles Davis. This album was nominated for a Grammy for 'Best Contemporary Blues Recording' in 1988.

Talk to Your Daughter is one of Robben's most outstanding efforts to date. Many of Robben's CD's tend toward 'period' pieces, like Picasso's paintings, offering strictly blues or jazz guitar. Talk to Your Daughter stands in contrast, revealing an exciting mix of all of Robben's musical depth. Robben's touch on the fretboard is absolutely Masterful and this CD is sure delight any avid guitar player or guitar hero collector.

I simply love CD's that I can listen to wholly from start to finish. Talk to Your Daughter will remain one of my favorites throughout my life. A must for every guitar lover's collection.

A high-bar for modern blues guitar

This CD is the best Robben Ford CD for the beginning listener to this accomplished artist. He plays guitar with such a unique melding of blues and jazz that the two musical forms blend seemlessly in his performances. Surrounded as he is on this endeavor with greats like Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, Roscoe Beck on bass, and Russell Ferrante (of the Yellowjackets) on keyboards, Robben is clearly in his element. Ferrante's original piece "Revelation" is a stand out tune here as are: "Help The Poor" (a Robben Ford standard), "Wild About You", and one of the strongest versions of "Born Under A Bad Sign" ever recorded. There is not a weak cut on this offering. And, this CD is a must for any forward-looking blues guitar player. It sets a hihg bar for all who follow.

Unbelievable chops and tasty licks. His singing is consistent with all his other albums. Another great work by Robben. I would highly recommend it to all aspiring guitarists and musicians.

Robben Ford had a field day with this 5 star recording. The guitar tones on this CD has caused a huge outbreak of "Gear acquisition syndrome".Everyone is trying to get close to his impeccable, chilling heavenly tone. It has been my quest for at least 15 years. I never could afford a Dumble. I am getting closer with a Two Rock Custom Reverb Signature version 2 and a Fuchs30 watt OD with SLX mod through a Celestion 12-65 speaker. We are getting there. This CD is a must have for guitar players that are into improv and need inspiration and in case they think they are the best guitar player onj the planet, then this CD Robben Ford "Talk to your daughter" will humble them to their knees!!!!!!!!   Robben Ford "Talk to Your Daughter". Not just the blues
Review created: 07/07/08

I hadn't heard this record in over 15 years. I hoped it would be as good as I remembered. No. It's much better than I remembered.

Robben Ford is one of the most under-rated guitarists of our time. This CD shows him at his very best. His tone can only be described as "butter". It's just magnificently smooth. The tone fits his style, perfectly.

His playing style is very much one-of-a-kind. He chooses every note like a master painter chooses his colors. He has a background in jazz (evident in his writing), so his solos are far more interesting than one who is just a blues player.

There are no "throw-away" songs on this record. Every track has it's own appeal. The instrumental, "Revelation", is a masterpiece. If anyone wants to know about his guitar playing, this is the song to sample. And, for his vocal style, "Ain't Got Nothin' But The Blues" just can't be beat.

Rarely in life is reality as good as memory. This is one of those instances.
