Highly recommended...

Terry Brooks can captivate any reader with his in-depth writing style. He draws a complex plot - which is beautifully executed through balanced structure and rhythm, and finalizes it with a resounding finale - The Talismans.
What I liked about it: the idea of the four horsemen was brilliant and original. The Duids Walker Boh and Cogline; the struggle of the brothers Par and Coll; Padishar Creel and Morgan Leah; Rimmer Dall - the evil mastermind of the Shadowen; the climax with the Shadowen; and of course, the Elves.
What I didn't like about it: The Mole - just a strange character (and I am still not sure what he is); The Federation - too political and close to our own government to be like-able; and the role characters always questioning or doubting (the Druids in general keep secrets and that angers the characters most of the time. It is frustrating because that sentiment is portrayed in every one of his books); and the inevitable fact that the story had to come to a close.
Even though I haven't read the book in years, I can still vividly remember the plot and Brook's creative imagery and style. This series is perhaps his greatest achievement (The Talismans really puts an exclamation point to it) after The Elfstones and The Wishsong. I recommend it very highly and it has actually inspired me to begin writing myself. (hint : you need to read the first three in the series - The Scions, The Druid, and The Elfqueen - before you touch this one)
