The book condition was just about as close to perfect as can be for a used book. The pages were crisp and full with no markings. I bought the book for 1 dollar saving 13, compared to a book store. I would gladly buy again.

Ahmed Rashid is a Pakistani journalist with more lives than a cat and a true love for Afghanistan and it's peoples. Recently relocated, with a fractured foot and a horrible bout with a plaugelike flu that went into puemonia I was fortunate to make a new aquaintance in a convenience store as soon as I got up here. I have been relatively bedridden except when I've gone to see him or family friends. We have a delightful game of trying to outdo each other with books and reading. Slipping each other books the one has just read or that we think the other will find interesting covertly when others are around or actually being able to give each other mega doses of our opinions in machine gun speed speils then dashing off. This was the second author he brought up and before he could bring in his book for me to borrow mine came in. Ahmed has managed to stay inside of more political courts without getting killed of anyone I have ever heard of in the ruthless games of Afghani politics and has been able to render a true insiuders view of the taliban, who they are, how they got into power and why they are a force that still has kept a hold in Afghanistan. This is another must read, put out there in a way anyone can understand.

Great book! Provides much detailed and needed info on the subject matter. The author does a great job on providing sound arguments that are very centrist and not so biased as opposed to other books.
