The Tales series at its best
Review created: 10/10/08

I'm a fan of the Tales series in general, and this has been seen by Tales fans as one of the best. This story follows Yuri Lowell and the companions he meets along the way on the planet ofTerca Lumireis. The people of Terca Lumireis have come to rely on "blastia", an ancient civilization's technology with a wide array of capabilities, such as providing water, powering ships, or creating barriers around major cities and towns to protect them from monsters.

Just like the other Tales games there is a great focus and depth on the backround of the characters. There are skits that can be triggered during the with conversations related and sometimes unrelated to the main story. These skits are seen as out-dated by some reveiwers but I see them as enjoyable and are a good way to get to know the characters more. While many Tales do not have voiced skits for the US released, this game does, making them all the more enjoyable.

Tales of Vesperia uses an updated version of Tales of the Abyss's battle system, called the "Evolved Flex-Range Linear Motion Battle System" (EFR-LMBS). As with previous Tales games, characters can move freely around the battlefield in real-time (my personal favorite type of battling). The players plays a character while the AI controls the rest, though characters can be set to perform a certain way in battle (ie a character can be set to heal only; a character can be set to keep thier distance from enemies).

While many Tales games brought to the US have instrumentals of the Japanese openings, this is the first game to have an English opening "Ring a Bell", performed by the same artist who performed the Japanese opening, Bonnie Pink. The character design is done by Kouske Fujishima, who has done the character designs for Tales of Phantasia, Tales of Symphonia, and Tales of the Abyss.

This game is currently a favorite of many Tales fans and RPGers. For those who have never been intorduced to the Tales series will find this to be a compelling RPG with a story line, multiple side quests, and many in-depth dialogs and conversations.

  The Paradoxical Nature Of Pain...
Review created: 10/09/08

Usually when something hurts you, hurts your marital relationship, drains you of all your social energy and places dangerous mental and emotional barriers between a man and his children, you would say that that's a bad thing. But not here in Vesperia...

Be warned, Crack is like a Silk Cut compared to this game.

It. Will. Eat. Your. Life.

  Great RPG

This game is great. My first playthrough I spent 115 hours with sidequests and storyline. I enjoyed every part of it. My second playthrough in Ex-new game mode with 10x experience and all my items from the previous game and not reading a single thing in the game, I clocked in under 15hrs to get a speedster achievement. The achievements are well thought out to get you to get the most out of this game. I highly recommend it.

A note about the battle system: You can play it like a tradition turn based rpg by controlling every spell your teammates do, or you can play 1player action with AI partners, or local co-op. It's pretty fun, especially when you get good at combos.

  Great underrated JRPG

Definitely one of the most underrated RPG's in recent years and easily up there with the likes of next gen RPG's such as Mass Effect, Oblivion, and others on the 360. Definitely the best Japanese RPG to come out for next gen consoles to date.

Best game since Final Fantasy 7

I have been playing this game for about a month and I have finished it. And I have to say this got to be the best game I have played since FF7. I have also played fable 2 and I think Vesperia blows it away. This the best RPG I've played thsi year. The battle set is awsome and Never gets boring. Also I love the story line of this game.
Make sure not to pass this game up. I see this game becoming a great classic for years to come.

THIS GUY IS A CHEAT! FIRST HE GETS A FEW GOOD REVIEWS AND THEN HE PUTS UP A LARGE NUMBER OF ITEMS UP FOR AUCTION AT VERY LOW PRICES AND GETS PEOPLE TO BID AT THE SAME TIME. HE TAKES PAYMENTS THEN IMMEDIATELY CANCELS HIS EBAY ACCOUNT AND TAKES OFF WITH YOUR MONEY. HE DID THIS WITH MANY OTHERS. TAKE MY ADVICE AND BUY FROM AN EBAYER WHO HAS A LONG RECORD OF MANY SALES.

  Tales Of Vesperia conquers

With the best main character in the series, Yuri Lowell, we embark on a great journey that has tendensies of over using certain story elements like the BLASTIA, but there are twists and turns that's never been done in RPG's before, especially on the Character developement side of it all.

You can get extra costumes that gives a total renewal of the feeling you get from the characters on your second playthrough.

The battle system is just awesome, best yet in a game.

What can I say, get it. It kicks ass.

I have been playing Vesperia for a couple of hours, about 10 hours, and i am VERY impressed. The game looks awesome and the real-time battles are crazier than ever, you just CANT beat 4-player action battles. i also really been loving the story, it has LOTS of voice-over work in it. so far its the game i hoped it would have been! This will keep me BUSY until Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the new World
is out xD

  For Once, A Solid JRPG

I bought this game because it's apretty solid JRPG, for those who don't know, that means Japanese Role Playing Game. This game provides excellent voice acting that has great flow and doesn't have that air of, "Am I supposed to take these guys seriously?".

It's the same as all the other RPGs out there in the sense that it starts you out on a simple search mission that blossoms into your garden variety catastrophe of global proportion, but it doesn't give you that ho-hum love story plot between the main character and some other random chick in the party.

The gameplay is solid and the fights follow a real time, fighting game feel. Like your expecting to be fighting Ryu or M.Bison at some point. And the button scheme while fighting makes it able to pick up and play easily while being able to explore each character's different fighting styles and skills, but it still provides a lot of depth and strategy so that your hardcore RPGer won't get bored with the regular hack-slash-special move gameplay. That is if you are willing to take it to that level.

There are tons of very interesting quests and extras to find in the game that can carry over to other playthroughs via the grade system, so that offers some replayability and makes fnding everything worthwhile, but the game still gives you that option to make your second playthrough freakishly difficult or ridiculously easy. Either way, you're in for a treat.

The most interesting aspect in this game is how the characters interact with each other via skits and the regular storyline. This game tries not to take itself too seriously and really heavy moments are tactfully made brighter by your character's quirky behavior.

All in all, if you're not really into RPGs, this game might not appeal to you, but people looking for a good RPG experience will find lots to do in this game. There is over 100 hours of gameplay if you are trying to get everything out of Tales and I'm sure the underground fans of the Tales series will not be disappointed.

I bought it because I wanted to save some money, and I did.
the game was mint condition as described and it works perfectly.
the most impressing thing is that the game was actually in mint condition, no scratches to be found in any part of the disc, the box, or the manual.

I was in the market for a new RPG, that I wouldnt have to devote my life to it, to enjoy it. Tales of Vesperia is a fun, fast paced RPG that you can just pick up and play. The story line may seem a bit cheesy, but makes up for it with fun and fast paced gameplay. I have not played through the entire game yet, but for what I have, the graphics have been amazing. This game is beautiful on HD sets. There is a demo on xbox live right now, that I would highly suggest trying before buying. While there is a big step up to the full game, you can at least see if you love the gameplay and feel of Tales of Vesperia, as I did.

  Ok game
Review created: 11/06/09

Pros
- cell shading graphics look good.
- item creation aspect is nice.
- the animation cut scenes look good (very few though)

Cons
- can't skip cut scenes if you have to replay them.
- combat is just button mashing.
- voices don't match some of the characters properly.
- most cut scenes just use the in-game engine, which doesn't look to great in that way.

I really like the feel of the combat system. I'm not one for turn based stuff. This game give you the freedom of open combat but still puts the fights in a nice 'turn base styled' barrier zone. If you like JRPGS then this is a title to defiantly check out. All around fun game, id play it several times in spaced out breaks.

Likes: If you like Tales of Symphonia you will like this game. So far it is very similar, with small improvements. The best improvements I have noticed so far is you get to set extremely specific battle strategies for each member of your team, and switch them during battle. You can also set positions for each member of your team at the start of battles. Awesome game so far.

Dislikes: You cant set exspheres to get skills like in Symphonia, skills are tied to weapons. Also the battling seems much slower than Symphonia.

I compare this game a lot to Tales of Symphonia, but even if you haven't played Symphonia, you can still enjoy the best real time battle RPG for the xbox 360.
