The Tale of Despereaux (DVD, 2009)

This was a wonderful movie driven by a great voice cast and fantastic artwork. The story and plot was so original and new, which is an immense relief since there still aren't that many CGI films out. The narration by Sigourney Weaver was absolutely splendid, her script really made it feel like I was being read to out of a children's book. Best of all, the moralistic messages in this film weren't shoved in my face or so obvious that all surprises are gone - it's probably one of the best subtle-theme-handling kids movies I've seen in a long while.

I love this movie because it has clean humor, something hard to find these days. It is a quality movie that doesn't compromise morals and standards. I originally bought this for my four year old brother, but I find myself watching it just as much as he does. Compared to other movies, this is definitely a steal. I would strongly recommend this movie to anyone looking for a funny action/adventure movie without profanity and/or sexuality, etc.

great kid and adult animated movie. this movie will make you laugh and the story line is good enough to entertain any adult as well. enjoy it alone or with all the kids.

A cute little movie about a mouse, rat and the human world. My grandsons enjoyed it very much and i was also entertained as i watched it with them. This would be a good one to add to you childs movie collection.

this movie had a great message behind it. It was about bravery, kindness, humility, and about becoming a friend to someone you least expect to be friends with. I loved it and the kids loved it. I would definitely recommend this movie to others.

good quality animations. Great characters. Kept moving, but I thought the storyline a bit long. Mice were adorable.

Took my sons to see this, and within 10 minutes I knew we would be owning this one on DVD eventually. Despereaux is an excellent film. The animation and voice talent is on par with Pixar, the story delivers great values and lessons, and there's something for every age. Recommended!

I BOUGHT THIS MOVIE LAST WEEK AND WAS IMPRESS WITH IT. IT WAS LISTED EVERYTHING CORRECT. I DIDN'T DISLIKE ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I DECIDE TO BUY IT CAZ MY KIDS SEEN ME LOOKING AT MOVIES ONE NIGHT AND SAID I WANT IT I WANT IT SO THATS WHY I BOUGHT IT. I LIKE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT MY KIDS LOVED IT TO.

A very entertaining movie with a solid storyline. Good voice-over cast brings substance to the well animated characters. Your children and you will will all enjoy this movie. This is a much under-rated film due to its release coinciding in the same time period as other animated films with a greater advertizing budget. This movie will not disappoint you.

The kids really enjoyed this movie. I am not a huge animated person but this was a wonderful movie. Good for the entire family to enjoy. I highly recommend this one.

Great family movie - finnally! Good theme, kids will love the cartoon, awesome story. Although only 60% of the movie is from the book, both movie is awesome and book is awesome. A definate buy for the family.

Great movie for kids Honesty..Nobality...and Courage...somethings that some people have forgotten in America!!

Good fantasy movie with good moral values. No questionable material. My kids loved it so much I had to buy in order to save money by not renting it any more.

Not as good as I had hoped. It reminded me a little of Read Between the Lions on PBS with the narrator telling the story. A bit of a disappointment. The book is much better for kids.

I purchased this DVD for my daughter. We saw this movie in the theatres and it one we needed to own. It is a tweak on the traditional princess / hero story. It is a bit dark in some parts which might be scary to small children but has a great story of love of family and pride in oneself no matter who or what you are.
