Personnel: Steve Poltz (vocals, acoustic guitar); Robert Driscoll (acoustic guitar, electric guitar); Jeff Aafedt (drums). Recording information: For the Record, Anaheim, CA; Record Two Mendicino. The Rugburns second album is filled with zany, heart wrenching tales of unrequited love and drug-induced madness. The songs are humorous, but at the same time earnest to the point of being disconcerting; possibly suggesting that songwriter Steve Poltz really fell in love with "The Girl With the Wandering Eye." Each tune feels upbeat and drenched in California sunshine, but the subject matter underneath the pop exterior usually revolves around the themes of uncaring women and disillusionment along the same vein that Too Much Joy experimented with in the '80s. Surprise guest Jewel sings backup vocals on "Old Lover's House," recorded shortly before her major label debut in 1995. ~ Zac Johnson
