Top ReviewsReview created: 05/08/09 9 of 10 people found this review helpful. I HAVE OWNED EVERY SIDEKICK MADE... AND I HAD DECIDED TO PURCHASE THIS ONE FOR MY BROYHER... IT IS GREAT AND HAS LOTS OS FUN FEATURES ON IT ! The good: The T-Mobile Sidekick 3 features a number of improvements, including a sleeker design, a 1.3-megapixel camera, an integrated music player, Bluetooth, and EDGE support. It also has a Mini SD card slot, a speakerphone, and world phone support. The bad: The T-Mobile Sidekick 3 suffers from a low-resolution screen, and speakerphone quality was subpar. It's also a bit bulky and heavy, and camera options are limited. The bottom line: The T-Mobile Sidekick 3 brings some notable additions, such as Bluetooth and an MP3 player, and continues to be a solid messaging device for the younger crowd; we just wish it had a better screen. Specifications: Carrier: T-Mobile ; Band / mode: GSM 850/1800/1900 ; Talk time: Up to 270 Paris Hilton, Snoop Dogg, Lindsay Lohan, Tony Hawk--they're all fans of the T-Mobile Sidekick II. Although it's not particularly sexy, the mobile device's powerful messaging features have earned it wide popularity with the younger crowd, and now, the new T-Mobile Sidekick 3 adds a number of notable improvements and additions that should keep it on the "gotta have it" list of celebrities and urban hipsters alike. First, there's a slimmer and sleeker design, and you finally get integrated Bluetooth for hands-free calling, as well as EDGE support for faster Web browsing. It has a better camera and a built-in MP3 player, and while they're certainly not good enough to replace the real things, the added multimedia functionality is nice. Of course, the Sidekick 3 is still a messaging machine, and whether you're sending e-mails or text or instant messages, the Sidekick does it all well; it's not a bad phone either. That said, we really wish it had a higher-resolution screen. Although the T-Mobile Sidekick 3 is a smart phone, it's not quite suited for the busy corporate user, and the Sidekick's manufacturer doesn't hide that fact. It's designed for users who want to keep on top of their social lifestyle rather than their workload, and for teens and twenty-somethings, the Sidekick is a solid and fun device. The Sidekick 3 will be available exclusively online to T-Mobile customers first, starting June 28, then in retail stores nationwide on July 10; for those of you who live in New York or Los Angeles, you can get the Sidekick 3 at select T-Mobile stores on June 28. Price points are set at $299.99 with a two-year contract, $349.99 with a one-year contract, and $399.99 with a pay-as-you-go plan. T-Mobile also said it has no plans at this time to offer a trade-in program or discounts for Sidekick II owners. The Sidekick has never been the sleekest handheld on the block, but with each iteration, it has shrunk in size. At 5.1 by 2.3 by 0.8 inches, the T-Mobile Sidekick 3 is no different, measuring a hair thinner in width and depth than the Sidekick II. On the flip side, it's marginally heavier than its predecessor at (6.7 vs. 6.5 ounces), but that's not surprising, considering all the new features packed into the handset. Also, the Sidekick 3 now sports a more sophisticated black and silver color scheme, as opposed to the Sidekick II's off-white casing. The T-Mobile Sidekick 3 is comfortable to hold in the hands as a messaging device, but with its blockier, PDA-like form factor, using it as a phone (the earpiece is located on the left side of the device) takes some acclimation. I got a 3 over the new LX as its too expensive. I ended up liking it better anyway. Most fans of the sidekick know it is a bit bigger than most other phones. But the keyboard size makes it that way and is great because texting is a breeze. My husband hated texting and refused to do it when all my previous phones were so small his fingers couldnt type without multiple mistakes. When I got this he loved the larger keyboard. I can type on it just as fast as my computer one. When people complain of the sidekick being too large, why buy it then in the first place if you dont like the size? If you want a slim sleek little phone(thats easy to break or lose I think) but if its a small phone you want, get a smaller phone then! Some are good like I love my blacberry pearl too and its small and is very sturdy. But the sidekick is really not that big, but its size is justified by what it has. Also, the screen is much bigger than on most phones, so viewing everything is really great. Would be great for anyone who wants to browse the internet. And great for anyone who hates trying to squint to see anything their smaller phones. I purchased a few features, like the games they are great! They have an awesome selection of games that are easier to use on the sidekick than any other phone because of the trackball and keypad as well as the up,down, left, right thing on the left side. I also purchased the mobile journal, and can journal on my phone! Its great for me because I love to write/journal, and I'm creative, I draw and fashion design. So the journal is great for jotting down things in my head so I dont lose them by the time I get home! They have many other features Im dying to get! My phone also came rhinestoned out on the top and I did my own on the back. It looks beautiful! The phone is way better looking than its predecessors. I also personally like it over the new one as I dont like the green color on the new one, but hey some people like it I guess. Not a fan of the tony hawk model either, its a big waste of alot of money when you can buy a regular and just put a custom case on it for way cheaper!. I love how the 3 is silver and black, my favorite of all the other sidekicks is this one! My only 3 complaints, which is why I didnt rate it as perfect(I believe nothing is perfect!) is that with this phone you have to buy many things that come with normal phones like the alarm clock and other features. Whats up with that crap? I know they wanna make money but I think thats a bit rude and unfair to the customer to expect us to buy things that every other phone comes with? But I love my kick so much I got over that as its tmobiles fault not the phones. 2nd complaint is similar to the 1st as it involves tmobile being greedy. You cannot put your own ringtones on this phone, like I can with my blackberry. You have to buy them and they are expensive, like 3 bucks a piece! And the selection of tones is crappy I found none so far I liked enough to spend the money so I just use the ones already one the phone. 3rd issue is just the camera. But everyone knows that sidekicks cameras are pretty suckish, they might as well not put them on at all. But thats a given with the sidekicks as I said, and all versions are like this, well Im not sure about the new one but it is prolly the same. I dont care, I have a real camera for pics. But as I said my likes by far out-weigh my dislikes. I highly recommened it! Review ID: 10000000008761121 Was this review helpful? Report this review |
