The G1 by T-Mobile is a pretty good phone. The biggest thing that people should understand about the G1, it is powered by Android. A lot of the programs for G1 is Beta testing which makes it really good. The applications are free, if you don't like it, you can uninstall it and try the next application. The only thing that stops this phone from being perfect, its ability to stay on G3 network. With the G3 network, things move a lot faster and the downloads is unbelievable. G3 network makes surfing the net with G1 awesome.

Also, you should also know that any G1's brought online or order over the phone must be setup by T-Mobile. When I first got the phone, I order the phone directly online and after receiving the phone, it took about a week for T-Mobile to activate it. The biggest thing you want T-Mobile to do is refresh the sim card. The SIM card that comes with the phone is especially for the G1 only. You can not transfer a sidekick or other SIM card into this phone. If the SIM card for the G1 is not refreshed thru T-Mobile, the phone will not work. You will continue to get connection errors. So make sure they refresh it, once your connected, you will never want another phone other then the G1!

Review of G1 Mobile Android Cell Phone

The phone itself is great, this is my first "smart phone" and it def. is that!
My main complaint is that its too big and bulky for my taste, i hear the new one coming out this month is smaller and sleeker.
At any rate this phone is great, highly comparable to the i-phone but with free applications!
I also have not lost or dropped any calls in the month or so i have had it.
Great phone, highly recommended!!

That guy mentioned a lot. I'll just throw this out, The G1 is actually the "HTC Dream" and is only marketed as the G1 in the states. A very good buy if you have T-Mobile service.

my G1 just arrived a week ago.
it is everything that I expected over a phone.
great usability, clear interface, just like iPhone. but this one came with a keyboard so i can type faster.
the phone has a rich functionalities.
such as :
* synchronize contact, mail with gmail. so you will never lost your contact.
* solid gps integration with google earth and google maps
* tilt sensor. you can play game like nintendo wii
* lots of free exciting apps you can download for free. such facebooksync, one of my favourite, i download your contact's picture by searching on your facebook acount.
* replaceable apps. if you doesn't like a default function (say sms editor). you can download a replacement application. so the new editor can be your default sms editor.
* many more... couldn't stop playing it for a week.
* also there are updates comming that support new functionality (things you rarely can get form a mobile.
* you can upload your video and photo directly to youTube and picasa

some shortage is :
* the camera has very minor quality, also the video
* battery just last form one day
* proxy support

decided to bid on this phone because i was hoping to find this phone for my girlfriends birthday gift at a decent price. As long as everything is in good condition like it was described in the bidding, i'll be a happy buyer. overall, this was a good find for this phone. thanks for doing business with you.

I have avoided buying the g1 over the past 3 phones. I have no clue why I decided to ignore purchasing it. The last 3 phones were the Blackberry Curve, a unlocked Blackberry Bold, and the Samsung Memoir. I now wanted a phone that was a little more technical, but fun at the same time. I had the chance to play with my friend's g1 and about fell in love it. So simple, yet advanced. I decided to try out the MyTouch before I chose to do the g1 and realized I did not want a "only" touch screen phone again. So, I up and bought the g1. Let me tell you, what an awesome phone! I have had it for almost a week and I am really enjoying it. The screen is bright and vibrant. The slide feature is very stiff and strong. The bronze color of the phone is very unique. Internet usage is very smooth.

For the technical side of the phone, the 3 pane main screen is great as you can store many applications on each. In addition, putting the applications onto the screen is very easy. Speaking of applications, wow, how simple can it get? The market for the applications is a simple click on an icon, which is a preset on the home screen when the phone boots up for the first time. Click the widget and you are in for thousands of applications. Sorry to use the word "simple" again, but it is very simple to make the phone your own!

One thing I really enjoy about the g1 is the different ways to type/text. You can use either the qwerty keyboard or the screen. You can type of the screen portrait and landscape. Yes, it is not as smooth as the Samsung Memoir, but it's very close.

I guess I can try and name some things I dislike about the phone; get ready because there aren't many. One being the camera. It is, on a 10 scale, maybe a 7.5-8. It is pretty good during the day time, but terrible in the dark as there is no flash. This will be the only part where I will miss the Samsung Memoir. At least, I will be able to use my new camera that I purchased just before I bought the Memoir.

Being the last of dislikes, I was "so-so" when it came to battery life. If you decide to use multiple applications, your battery will decrease at a decent pace. Even if you click out of an application doesn't always mean it closes. If you do not close the applications in the phone's settings, you can see a good day out of the phone. If you decide not to use applications, a day and a half. By the way, this is heavy usage characteristics that I claiming which involves internet usage, texting, and talking. But, to save this, there are a couple of applications to help. After downloading these applications, the battery now has a new swagger. I have added at least an extra 1/2 a day to the phone. Now, I am very pleased with the battery life.

Overall, this has to be one of the best and coolest phones I have owned to date. I can see me holding on to this phone for quite some time. There has already been an update while I have owned it. Even though I'm not too sure what the update was, it's the fact that it happened. The last 3 phones never really warned me about updates. Especially the Memoir. I owned it anticipating an update and never received one. I think that phone came out too soon for its time as there are no applications or updates to keep one happy for awhile. The 8MP camera is awesome, but thats it. As taking pictures got old, I lost hope. Now though, with the g1, hope has found its way back into my world.

I hope this helps some people out. Good luck with your g1 purchases!!

- You can't save downloaded applications to a memory card. Speakerphone quality wasn't the greatest.
- full qwerty keyboard , 3G support, Wi-Fi , GPS & Bluetooth
- G1 is a powerful smartphone for all types of users.

Generally the G1 is a good phone. However, one of the app - the camcorder's recording is missing somehow. I would totally satisfied if this feature is available to this particular phone.

This was the worst experience I have ever had with a business transaction. The Phone was not the phone that I bought and was not the one on display. I payed over $117 for the phone and when it got to my house the phone was not what I thought it was. I sent the phone back to the seller and only got $70 reimbursed to my account. So basically it cost me roughly $47 dollars to look at a phone that was advertised as something else.

Thanks

  G1 Rocks...
Review created: 08/14/09
by:
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I bought the G1 in June, and there's a number of reasons why I like this phone:
-I really like the look of this phone, yes there's some weight to it, it's a more heavier phone, but I like the thought of paying money for a phone that has a solid feel to it.
-I bought the bronze version of the phone, which also comes in white (which I think would get dirty) and black, which in my opinion has a classy look to it.
-Being that this phone has a nice, yet reasonable pricetag to it ($225 and up), I'd strongly recommend purchasing a case for it, so that it doesn't get scratched up.
-The phone comes with a number of user friendly features, which includes Androit Market, a site where you can get "widget-like" programs (applications, games) for your G1, many of them which are free, others with a price.
-There are a number of standard features, ringtones, etc. that'll keep you busy and fun to explore when you first use your G1.
-I like the fact that the phone has booth touch screen and keyboard features, which is especially nice.
-The keyboard takes a little bit of getting used to if you haven't had a phone with a keyboard, but in due time I got used to it and really like this feature.
-Along with your simcard code the G1 also has a feature where you can draw a pattern to unlock your phone after it has timed out. The G1 Android Market also has a free app download where you can lock your phone via your computer and/or track it if it's stolen.
-The G1 also keeps track of all of your texting conversations, in case you need to ever refer to past texting conversations.
-It has a "flick" touch feature, similar to the iphone or ipod where you can quickly scroll across your applications, contacts, etc.
-It also keeps track of those people you call frequently and has a separate tab to "click" on to instead of redialing their number.
-The video camera and digital camera are okay, and nice features to have.
-On the main desktop of your phone, there's three different windows you can slide to and from in case if you want to have some of your favorite games and/or applications directly on the desktop of your G1, which can be dragged from your menu tab.
-The alarm clock app allows you to set a number of different alarms on different dates and at different times with different rings, very user friendly.
-It's a pretty quick phone, opening applications or looking up sites from the phone is pretty quick.
-The phone comes with earphones, an instruction booklet and charger.
-By purchasing a USB cord, you hookup your G1 and drag your music photos to and from your G1 with ease, without having to download any special programs for your G1. By hooking your G1 up to your computer with the USB cord, it also charges your phone.
-If you need any further assistance Tmobile has a forum for G1 users, it's useful to get quick answers to some of your questions from other G1 owners.
-Overall it's a great phone and I'd recommend it to anyone who's interested in purchasing one.

HTC Android G1 . An Awesome Phone !
Review created: 08/12/09
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Man , I have to say . This phone is great , I bought it a couple of days ago . Plugged in the charger , & Let it charger for 30 minutes and it was basically almost full . I played around with it for a few , discovering its features & techniques . And boy oh boy , you can't get life anymore simpler than this . I mean , you can text , IM , download tons of free apps , call & bump to music . The apps are helpful in such cases that you lose service , some apps are IM apps & SMS Text apps . So you never stop communicating . The camera , pshh forget about getting a digital camera , the money spent on this phone is well worth it cause with a camera built in like this one , you see crystal images right upon your eyes . The only perks about this phone , The AIM doesn't load my buddylist & many have suffered with it , but the AIM apps sure does the trick in helping . Battery life , can be better . For a cheesy battery & all these apps .. nothing can be played for too long including music . To listen to music you have to plug in the adapter first , so if you lose that , your out of luck . Pretty gay if you ask me . Overall , Its A 9 | 10 . But , i realized this not for teens . Its more of an adult phone . Not only that , but a BUSINESS adult phone .

G1 First Impressions (Apple I phone comparison)
Review created: 11/05/09

Got the G1 about a week ago and very pleased with what I have. Here are some likes, dislikes, and comparisons.

There are 3 main reasons I got a G1:
1) It has a tactile keyboard.
2) It is not in anyway connected with Apple.
3) Native Google apps integration and Android operating system.

I began using the phone right out of the box and did not need to use the manual even once. Operation was fast and intuitive without any system crashes. Google imported all my online contacts right away. I had to tweak Gmail contacts to only sync the ones I need. That took some significant time (working in Google on my pc). If you have your contacts synced with T-mobile, there is a nifty app that imports them into G1. If your contacts are backed up on the sim-card, that should be very straight forward.

Speed is quite fast, though not as fast as I-phone, but the difference is marginal. I only experienced momentary freezes when G1 was running multiple applications (4 or 5 at the same time). There are ways to prevent that. (Maybe I'll write a guide later).

The screen is very nice. It's not as large as the I phone. Tactile operation was very good and responsive, but not as smooth as on the I-phone. G1 does not support dual touch, so zooming in and out of apps like Google maps is done using a shortcut (just like on pc).

The feel of the phone is nice if you like your phone feeling like a PHONE and not a playing card.... It took a little while to get used to a two-piece phone.

Unlike the I-phone, there is an easily removable and replaceable battery (you can buy spares for traveling). The battery life is good and lasts me a whole day with very heavy phone usage. 24 hrs with light to moderate usage.

Tactile keyboard is very easy to use and handy. Some people seem to have a problem with it - not me. There is also an on-screen keyboard. You can add other language keyboards through the Application Store. It takes a little time to get used to switching between various keyboards. I find myself using the tactile keyboard 90% of the time. It's easy, fast and mistake proof unless you can't spell ;)

Google Apps integration is amazing. I had all the elements of my digital life right there with me. Gmail, Calendar, Maps, Google talk... etc. etc. There are multiple ways to improve productivity and social life with this phone. Lots of cool apps available free or with purchase. The Android platform is only beginning to be developed, so many cool things are yet to come.

One of the greatest advantages of this phone is that it's not connected with Apple, so there is no need to use I-tunes to sync the phone. All the operating system updates are done wirelessly. Music can be downloaded through Amazon and does not have DRM restrictions limiting songs to only one phone or PC. You can freely move your files between the pc and the phone via a USB connection. Total Freedom. I like that!

Overall, I'm very pleased with the phone and didn't even begin to tap its potential.

Thanks for reading and don't forget to rate! :)
