I can clearly say this is one of most entertaining FPS/RPG I've played so far.

The Goods
-Story. It's SPECIALLY great if you played System Shock 1.
-Great Atmosphere. You're (almost always) alone in the spaceship and fights through terrifying monsters roaming around.
-Sounds. PDA voicelogs are one of the best works done in this game.
-RPG Elements. You gain strength through the story and exploration.
-Replayability. connects with the RPG elements.
-Challeinging Difficulty. Starts out hard(lacking supplies and stats) but things get better, specially after Deck 4 or so.

The Bads
-Graphics. Looks too old for current standard, But there's replacements for models and textures to make things better.
-Difficulty. I find it well-balanced but SS2 could be too hard for casual players.
-Engine Troubles. Dark Engine is VERY OLD ONES. didn't work with Geforce8800GTS(my vid) + new Forceware Driver(165 or later), for me I had to degrade the driver to 163.75 in order to play.

I bought the System Shock 2 PC game because I already have play it a long, long time ago and found it top among the RPG - shootin games....The specific game came without the manual, but it wasn,t a problem, as I already new the game mechanics....although somehow out of age, I recommend it for PC gamers who love thriling science fiction adventures in RPG modus....

This game is scary and when i say scary i mean REALY scary. The lighting and sound effects are so detailed that it will keep you scared even after you stop playing. The story is rich and full of unpleasent twists, it will keep you on the edge of your seat through the whole game.

If you have never played the first System Shock you have really missed the beginning. With this game you have to be aware of you condition, abilities and what is going on around you. Creatures pop up from everywhere. The puzzles can become so complicated and involved that you can foget where you are, what you are or should be doing and holy cow there's 4 more comming at you. WOW!!!!!!!! Play for your own enjoyment.

This is probably one of the creepiest games ever made. System Shock 2 is a great sequel, in this one you choose your class among several choices one focusing on strength, others on repair, hacking, and psychological skills. This game is very rigid, items and weapons are rare and deteriorate quickly through use. Without giving away any plot I will say this game effectively establishes a feeling of loneliness and futility. The exploding talking robots are my favorite part of the game...

This game, man, this game. I bought it because it is required playing if you want to appreciate the FPS/RPG genre. It is also one of the most immersive and scariest games you'll ever get to play.
All the games we like have elements of what SS2 had, but SS2 did it right.
Maybe it's all the techno, or the fact that you are alway starving for resources, or that no matter how well you've updated your rig, you can still get owned by something around the corner.
If you can get a hold of this game, and you like a good story and gripping gameplay, go get this game. It won't be around forever.
Good games should not be scarce. They should be like literature. People should be forced to play this game and tell the class about it.

For those of you who don't know, the other reason to play this game is the spiritual sequel that comes out this Spring: Bioshock.

Regards

  System Shock 2
Review created: 10/19/06

This is my 2nd favorite game of all time, with the first being the sleeper hit, System Shock.

If you have never heard of System Shock, here is a crash course to bring you up to speed.

System Shock was a DOS/Windows game (Windows95) that took the 1st person shooter (FPS) genre, and gave it elements that drew you into it, instead of running and gunning. The standard FPS game typically had a level, you beat it, go to next level. In System Shock, you sort of don't have levels. You have various areas that require this and that before you can access it. But, once you acheive access to a new area, you are not simply done with the previous area. System Shock environments are GIGANTIC, and if you just run and gun, your screwed. Anyway...........

There are tons of reviews online about these games, and though they don't have the popularity of Quake & Doom, they simply must be played. You are not likely to find a game in this genre with a better, deeper storyline, and as much stuff to do & find & learn in the game.

Keep your eyes peeled for BioShock, slated for release Spring 2007. I predict it will be one of the biggest games of the year. :-)
