This album followed Prince's debut with the New Power Generation, DIAMONDS AND PEARLS, and marked a turning point in the career of one of the most talented, prolific, and successful pop stars of the '80s and '90s. For many, the album introduced a new Prince whose music now encompassed rap and other contemporary radio-friendly sounds. For others, SYMBOL signaled the beginning of Prince's downward spiral into self-indulgence and lack of focus. After the album's release, Prince changed his name to the unpronounceable symbol emblazoned on the cover. It is hard to argue with Prince's innovative, accessible, and utterly singular musical vision. While not everything on this double-length set is strong, SYMBOL offers such an abundance of material that there is sure to be something here for everyone. Dance floor booty-movers like "The Max" and "Damn U" alternate with atmospheric ballads ("Sweet Baby") Other tracks (the chaotic free-funk of "Arrogance;" the dark gospel pulse of "7") are more resistant to categorization. The hit singles "My Name Is Prince" and the irresistible James Brown-style jam (complete with JB's-ish horns) of "Sexy M.F." provide sing-along dance anthems. There is enough intensity and diversity here to prove that Prince is still a force to be reckoned with. Report this review Review created: 03/02/08 by: 3121destiney ( 2 ) the product was in wonderful condition. i got what i asked for at a great price. the packaging was good. i liked that a lot. the album was secure. nothing was broken. hardly any scratches. did not look new, but it looked slightly used. that was a major plus. i decided to buy this cd because i am trying to get the prince collection. buying cd's at 10 to 20 dollars a piece gets very expensive, but having the original from ebay was worth waiting for. It has a 1M-pixel camera, video camera, and speakerphone. The NewPhone's size is perfect for carrying in a pocket and the battery has a pretty good lifespan of roughly 4 hours. My only complaint is that the menu system on the phone makes you click four times before you can find someone in the address book, set an alarm, or perform a additional functions. Other phones I've owned have simpler menus and get you to important features easily. Overbusiness Review ID: 10000000003374975 Was this review helpful?
