This is a dark comedy. Did I say comedy? If anyone out there has ever wanted to take revenge on a boss you didn't like this is the movie for you!
Set in Hollywood it's about a guy (Frank Whaley) who wants nothing better but to break into show business but there a few obstacles along the way such as working for the boss from hell!
Released in 1994 this is a chance to see an early Kevin Spacey and find out why he later won 2 Academy Awards. Spacey is vulgar, sadistic, ruthless, crass, barbaric all those qualities we have come to love and admire about him. Did I mention he's also funny in this movie.
Don't miss the chance to own this movie, you won't regret it. A must for hard core Spacey fans!

This was the first movie I watched that starred Kevin Spacey, did not know how good an actor he was. After this movie, I became a Spacey fan. Kevin plays the role of the big fish in Hollywood, best at what he does and really powerful, so everyone wants to be near him or work for him at any cost. As most narcissistic and powerful people are, he disrespects and terrorizes those under his control. However in society, a lot of people are near the edge of becoming someone else with a just little push of influence and thus one of his assistants reaches that point of no return and switches the tables on his boss. Fantastic show!

Great DVD to add to any collection. Interesting story with good characters. Very good Kevin Spacey hit! Classic Kevin and his craziness. Nice little twist at the end as well. Good and interesting show! Makes you think of things that you would like to do to get even with a pain in the butt boss.

  Spacey on target
Review created: 09/15/07

There are several ways to enjoy this movie; 1) Kevin Spacey is at his best in terms of edginess and verbal acidity, 2) if you've ever had a nightmare boss, you will identify with Frank Whaley's suffering role as an intern, and 3) as an indictment of LA and American values and measures of power and success.
The dialogue and situations are beautifully composed. Joanne Moore is also quite good as Frank's confidant and lover. This is not a light film, and the ending is disturbing but logical given the situation.
Highly recommended!

Swimming with sharks is the movie which gives you reality of people who want to reach the top of their goals.Movie is not popular like x men or movies like that. This is the movie to WATCH,LISTEN AND LEARN.This movie is REAL movie. In my opinion...i would call it even documentary. But amazing documentary.
It sending you message that indivindual who is born in middle class family and has a "think big" goal, has to struggle so much, has to kiss so many butts, smile even if it's not funny, work crazy hours, doesn't have private life,be dissrespected in so many ways, keep the balance that everybody think that individual is nice, etc, etc.
Pay attention of Budy Ackerman{not sure if pronounced properly} Kevin Spacey, who's the boss in this movie, what he is acctualy telling all the time to his assistant{Frank Walley}.Especially, when they are in the his house.Think of everything he said and you'll find that everything makes sence.
To achieve your goals is not easy.Everybody knows that. But not everybody can EARN IT,TAKE IT,MAKE IT.Every winer has a lot of losts.Every sacrifice has a lot of sad stories before they achieve their goals. At the end...good guys loose. This movie is just about that.

My favorite message from the boss:

"You see, that's the problem with this MTV new microwave generations...they all want it now.Just becouse you want it doesn't mean you have it.You have to earn it,you have to take it,you have to make it"!

P.S.There are the certain things in the movie that i do not support,of course.
But like i wrote before, the movie itself sends huge message and i believe you can learn from it.And you can agree with.
