I started reading Ms. Davidson quite a few years back and loved her earlier novels, but then quit for a while because she was in a rut with Goldy Schulz's abusive ex-husband and the stories became more a book about him. Well, Ms. Davidson finally killed him off...probably due to popular demand. My favorites are still her earlier novels before she became a little to sophisticated in words and action. "Sweet Revenge" is actually one of her better ones in the last few years, BUT she still is holding some thought about Goldy's ex-husband in this, because apparently his girlfriend/murderer is back from the dead. Goldy is catering the Aspen Meadow Library's holiday breakfast when she thinks she sees Sandee Brisbane....the woman who killed dear ex-hubby. Well, after that, Goldy finds the body of a former district attorney with a priceless map stashed on him.
The title "Sweet Revenge" is perfect for this book, but I do hope this is the absolute last of any mention of her abusive dead ex-husband and his playmates, who there were many. Goldy needs to get back to cases like she did in her first novels.....Ms. Davidson?

I bought this because I bought each of her books..and while I enjoy the main character Goldy Schultz, her retinue of characters in this book are somewhat difficult to like. I think its way more difficult to make the investment to care about them. One thing I always liked about Diane Mott Davidson is her continuity from book to book, case to case - she is careful to use similar descriptions from book to book, but even they are growing tired.

I read it because I liked the others...but now I see the reason for books on tape. The Cereal Murders remains the best one of all..

All of Davidson's book are the same book: she's trying to kill off the entire small town of Aspen Meadow, Colorado, and the details just differ a little from book to book. But, for some reason, I keep buying them. Maybe because I hope they'll get better -- or maybe it's really just all about the food. Yeah, I think that's it. While I scream inside (or out loud) every time she describes another food as "luscious" or "ropes of espresso," I want to hear about the recipes and how she prepares the food. Don't get me wrong; I don't try many of the recipes -- I just like food. Poor writers, not so much. I bet she's laughing all the way to the bank: you go, Diane.

  Sweet Revenge

I have read all of Diane Mott Davidsons books and have enjoyed all of them until now. I think this one is really stretching it. I guess I have come to think this town of Aspen Meadows is the murder capitol of the world and that Goldie is the most unlucky woman in the world. Every book she gets injured really badly and refuses to go to the hospital, is stiff and sore and can hardly move but the miracle of caffene saves the day and she is able to cook! Ah come on, take a break, she is only human. How she can manage to find herself with all of those dead bodies is beyond me. These stories were very intertaining for a while, but have become so unbelievable in the last couple of books that I really don't think I will be buying the next one. I'm sorry to say that I was not thrilled with this one.

  Good read

I have read every book in this series, and I thought it was good. I did read some complaints that people thought the author dragged things out by recapping the story over and over. I didn't find this to be the case. Yes, the author did have the main character recap, but with all the twists and turns, I actually found it to be helpful. If you've read the other books in this series, I'm sure you'll enjoy this one as well!
