I Love Joan but This album is disappointing.Review created: 08/09/09

I think Joan's voice is one of the best in the world. She just always seems to get paired up with music and style that does not do her justice. When she did "Heat Wave" with the Funk Brothers she just blew away anyone who could ever think of singing that song. SO I thought this album would be very "Soulful" instead, to me anyway, it turned out to be a very uninspiring,lazy laid back sort of almost elevator music jazz album. Who ever produced these particular songs in this manner must have had "muzak" in mind. Joan, please make an album with the "Funk Brothers" Do a "Motown's Greatest Hits" with the Funk Brothers and you will strike Gold....

) Joan Osborne is one of those singers that just has the voice of an angel with just enough edge to take her out of the strictly gospel (read Amy Grant) category. If you like Sheryl Crow, she will probably be another great find for you. I didn't care for War (because I despised the original, but such are my political leanings), but her voice still carried the album for me. I won't hold it against her that she is on the Sheehan side of politics because that voice wins me back. Enjoy the album. Heck, if you have the Sheehan politics, you might just enjoy it more than me.
