Album Notes The Gentle Waves includes: Isobel Campbell. Additional personnel includes: David Scott (acoustic & electric guitars); Mick Cooke (guitar, trumpet, glockenspiel); Stevie Jackson, Neil Humphrey (guitar); Malcolm McMaster (steel guitar); Margaret Smith (flute); Jenny Diver (saxophone); Chris Geddes (piano, organ); Ed McFarlane, Ryan Smith (acoustic bass); Stuart Murdoch (bass); Richard Colburn, Ross McFarlane, Johnny Quinn (drums, percussion). Under the cover of the Gentle Waves, Belle & Sebastian's Isobel Campbell released her second solo effort, SWANSONG FOR YOU, in 2000. And once again, it sounds like a more stripped down, intimate version of her main band. Much like its predecessor, SWANSONG features Campbell's breathy vocals over sparse arrangements; soft piano or picked acoustic guitars are balanced with gorgeous string arrangements. In her charming Scottish accent, Campbell has a knack for sounding like she's singing for the listener alone. SWANSONG's successes make it arguably her finest achievement as a solo performer, even if the last under the Gentle Waves moniker.
