Swan Song by Robert R. McCammon (1996, Paperback, Reissue)

I have read this book 4 times and am now reading it for the 5th. Every time I read it, it justs gets better. McCammon is amazing at character description and sucking you into the story. The first time I read it, I read it in under 2 days. (And it's nearly 1000 pages.) I've read many books in all different category's, and nothing has come even close to this one. I'm so in love w/ this that I just bought my b-friend a copy so he will read it. This book is about the world being decimated by world war 3. There's death and despair everywhere. All the major cities destroyed. There are 2 major waring factions that want control and then the people who are just trying to survive. This is a sci-fi as well as action/adventure. The "Satan" character is after the only entity that can foil all his plans. A little girl named Swan. (semi-spoiler alert) She has the ability to restore plant life in a world that has little to none. Basically, she's mother nature as a child. A man named Josh is her "chosen" protector and has to keep her alive all the while dodging Satan, battling through a K-mart type store filled w/ escaped mental patients, and just finding her food, keeping her warm, ect. ect. Each character McCammon introduces is amazing. The good and the bad. (warning- there are plenty of bad words and sexual situations, so you wouldnt want young ones reading this.) Its silly, but I was reading an intense part today, and even though I've already read this 4 times and know what happens next, I still hope that they can get out of it, that things will be different this time. Of course it doesn't change, but I just wanted you to know how wonderful a writer McCammon is. I have waited for this to become a movie for so many years, but maybe it's best that it's not. It would probably be an insult to the book as most books to movies are. Unless of course J.J. Abrams made it. =)

I won't waste your time with a lot of BLA,BLA,BLA, Hands down, this is the best science fiction book I have ever read!!

I love this book! I have just purchaced it for about the 1000000000000000 time. It is a gift for someone else. A great read. I bit slow getting going but once it does you wont put it down.

I borrowed this book many years ago from a friend and really enjoyed it. Over the years I have looked in book stores and used book stores for it, but to no avail. I thought to search on e-bay and viola, there it was!

I'm just like the other viewers...this is the most interesting book i've ever read. There are alot of parallels with "The Stand" by Stephen King, but this book is better. This is about the 4th time i've read it. You won't be disappointed. I read another of his books, disappointing.

THIS BOOK IS TRULY THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ. I HAVE BOUGHT THIS BOOK AT LEAST 10 TIMES, ONLY TO LEND IT OUT TO FRIENDS AND HAVE IT RUINED. BUT AT THE SAME TIME, I WASNT ANGRY BECAUSE THEY GOT TO EXPERIENCE THE ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC STORY OF THE CHARACTORS. THIS IS THE AMAZING STORY OF INDIVIDUALS NOW LIVING IN A WASTELAND, TOTALLY UNSIMILAR FROM DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE COUNTRY WHO END UP COMMING TOGETHER TO FIGHT A BATTLE AGAINST GOOD VS EVIL.... AND TO PROTECT ONE AGAINST THE ULTIMATE EVIL.
A MUST READ!!!!!

This is one of THE BEST books I have EVER read!!!!! I have read it 3 times and it is still GREAT. I reccomend this book and this author. McCammon is a great writer

As the title says, I make it a point to re-read this book every single year, I must have gone through 5 or 6 copies that have fallen apart from such frequent handling. It is an absolute classic and I never tire of rediscovering the wonderful characters that Mr. McCammon created. Sister, Swan, Josh, even Colonel Macklin and Roland Croniger are so richly described, I welcome my yearly reacquaintance with them. A MUST READ (yep, in caps).

This is the third copy of this book I've purchased. I just finished reading it for the 10th or maybe 11th time. I read 4 to 6 books a week, and this is STILL my favorite of all time!! Makes you think, gives you hope.

Great story line, you wont be able to put it down!!!!!!This book follows Stephen King'The Stand.... but Rob does it much beter!!!!! The Stand goes out with a whinper & sigh, Mcammon bows up the world!!!

A fantastic adventure that grabs you from beging to end. What i like most about the story is what makes any story great, the characters! You find yourself really routing and careing for them. This will deffinently be a story that sticks with me for a while and as of right now is in my top five!

I have read this book many times. So many times my copy has fallen apart. This book is like a book for the ages. It is timeless. You can't put it down and it is about 1000 pages long.

I have read this twenty years ago and was blown away by how the story was told and got fascinated with all of the characters. I have fell in love with Swan and Sister Creep. Until now, I still consider this one of the best books ever written. I would have love this to be made into a movie. If you are looking for a great story you would not get tired of reading over and over, get Swan Song. McCammon is one of the greatest storytellers. This would also be a great gift to dear friends. Your friends would thank you for it.

Incredible, One of the best books you will ever read. The book was first given to me by my Uncle, who got it from his brother, who got it from his friend, I later gave it to my Mother who gave it back to me when I wanted to read it again. This would be my 3rd time buying it and passing it on.

I have read many books but this is the VERY BEST book I have ever read..I hated for it to end...and have recommended it to everyone I talk to about books..I enjoyed this book so much that I bought every book written by Robert McCammon just to get the feeling again of his writing style..but no other book or author has compared to Swan Song..It does start a little slow but after the first chapter, it is hard to put the book down..when I did have to stop reading, I couldn't wait to start reading again and thinking about it..I hated for it to end so much that after the last chapter, I started reading it over again & picked up on a few things that I missed the first time...Its the best !!! I wish there would be a follow-up novel..

In a word, simply the absolute BEST book I have ever read. I have read the book twice already and actually have three copies. I have my wife reading it now and she utterly LOVES the book to pieces. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read a book that "you can't put down".

This is one of the very best books I have ever read! This is the 3rd copy I have had to buy because I have read it so many times. Some people say it is slow to get going, but after you're into it, you don't want it to end. It is the story of several different people after a nuclear holocaust in modern day America. The story is so powerful, and it is so well written, you feel like you are connected to each character. It is also very thought provoking as to what you would do in similar situations. A+++

If you like the stand written by stephen king you will love swan song. A fantasy about a possible future of the end of the world as we know it. There is a fight, good against evil and a story, that will keep you on the edge of your seat thhroughout and a love for the charactors fighting to find life and meaning.
