Helen Slater was the Star of the SUPERGIRL Movie... Which Was Based on the Comic Book Title
Helen, born in 1963, was the star of the 1984 theatrical movie 'Supergirl'.
She is known as an actress and a singer-songwriter. Helen attended Manhattan's School of Performing Arts, graduating in 1982. (Today she is an accomplished pianist with two solo albums in 2004 & 2005.)
Within months of her graduating, she attended auditions for an upcoming spin-off movie of the famous Superman (1978) film franchise. The film was to be shot in the United Kingdom at the Pinewood studios, where the first Superman films were filmed. .
After being the first to audition for the Supergirl role she won it. Although the Supergirl film received mixed reviews at its opening, most critics were impressed with her abilities to perform the role. In fact, most critics thought that she did a better job at keeping her secret identity, (a mousy school girl), than Christopher Reeve did as Clark Kent!
Personally, I just couldn't get into this movie when I first saw it. Marc McClure reprised his role as Jimmy Olsen in this film as he had in Superman, but something was missing.... maybe Superman in a cameo??
Faye Dunaway was over the top as the primary villain in the movie, and the movie did not pull good reviews or box office money. The movie is technically of the same series that Christopher Reeves did as Superman from 1978 -1987 but is usually not included in any boxed sets of the movies.

I looked forward to seeing this video for quite some time. Unfortunately, I found the movie to be - while not out-and-out disappointing - quite less than hoped for. Perhaps, being a fan of the original DC Comics in the 50's and 60's, I just expected too much. The characters and plot line did just not come across well and seemed to lack proper planning. They undoubtedly are not true to the original.
The only bright spot in this video was Maureen Teefy as Lucy Lane. She, in my opinion, did a marvelous job of portraying her character.
All in all, I would rate this movie as average.

to see what supergirl was about. great action. didn't know superman had a cousin. interesting to know that she lived under the sea. i wanted to see what the movie was about. good for older children to watch.

this is a classic movie that people dont reallly rember it is a well liked movie in my famiely and it took me a while to find the right title to find it i think that anyone who likes the superman/girl/wonder woman carchters they will enjoy this movie a lot

collect superhero movies?This Movie is not the best movie. but it completed my collection of "super" movies. The movie came out when Christopher Reeve was playing superman. It is not as good as that series but it can hold it own.

I bought the film because I already had the TV show the 1,2,3,4 and the latiest new "Superman Returns" I didn't even know they made a supergirl movie. It was made between the 2 and 3rd one I believe and like the special effects of that day it was pretty corney, and cheap looking. but it's part of a growing collection so I wanted it and I paid less then at the stores for it too. it had a surprizing amount og big starts in it as well.

This movie didn't hold up well to time. Also, I just didn't buy the whole concept of Supergirl being up against a witch. Was there any magic in the original comic series? I guess I was very surprised by this. In any event, this movie would win no awards today. The plot was very thin and the part about Supergirl getting kissed and then practicing... well can anyone say 70's after school special?

great family movieThis is a great family movie for the kids and parents. It is older but the movie was still in great shape as well as the case. The price paid was worth the value of it. We had to purchase this disc for our home collection of Superman related movies. We have the collectable tin Superman I-V, Superman Returns, as well Smallville and Lois & Clark.
The movie starts off slow & grinds to a painful halt with less super effects than even Superman III (loser of a movie!). They did so little with this movie it's hard to believe it was from the same folks that gave us Superman I & II.
IF I didn't need to have it for the collection, it would be listed on my items for sale today...
