Its predecessors redefined action gaming. This game perfected it. On eBay, people are looking to buy games worthy of collecting and playing both. As for a game that one must play, I highly recommend this game. I recommend buying it on the Wii through the Virtual Console as well. Though, the game is dramatically improved with a Wii Classic Controller. As a game to collect, I once again can't stress this more. It is a must-have game in your collection. Thanks. Have a good day, Matt Review ID: 10000000004481831 Was this review helpful? Report this review 2 of 3 people found this review helpful. If not THE best one of the top five SNES games. From Metroid II you had limited powers and can only hold one beam at a time. In Super Metroid you can now combine beams and use a charge function to increase the power. The Grapple Beam which enables you to swing across a special block and destroy some enemies. This legendary item made way for its many uses in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. It also introduced a Space Pirates appearence for the first time and closed the Zebes chapter. The control was easy to learn and prevented you from going into Speed Booster unwillingly. The Ridley, Kraid, Metroids, and Mother Brain are still present to keep the classic feel alive but Draygon and Phantoon were new threats to keep the series interesting. Also new areas were added to this game to actually make the items that were being collected extremely useful. Review ID: 10000000001297649 Was this review helpful? I fired this game up and this time I used a internet walkthrough, and for a SNES game, this one is very elaborate and has lots of play time, plenty of involvement and its challenging terrain. I like the fact that there is so much to do and a big map to play on, explore many different sections of a planet and find yourself getting sucked into this great game. If you have a SNES please buy this classic and try it, definitely my favorite Metroid I've played so far!!! What didn't I like about this game??? ummm.... Nothing comes to mind, maybe it could have been harder with bosses, I don't think I died at all, which makes the game "easy"....yeaa....it could have been more diffuclt to win this game. =) Review ID: 10000000004646692 Was this review helpful? Super Metroid contains a vast amount of replayability, fun, intense boss battles, and some of the best music ever composed for a game. In these days when games have a budget as big as most Hollywood movies, that is saying a lot. Review ID: 10000000012538507 Was this review helpful? I was very pleased to find a very reasonable deal that also had the manual, which I really like as well. The product seems to work (hopefully it will stay that way) and I'm very satisfied overall, it was just what I wanted. :) Review ID: 10000000012373459 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 05/29/09 by: I've played Super Metroid back when you could rent it, but I was unable to figure out what you were supposed to do, getting stuck in Norfair (needing to get the Varia Suit). With much more skill with games now, I decided to buy it so I could try again. Yet, I got stuck in the same spot again. Thankfully, GameFAQs came to my rescue, but only used to get "unstuck". I got stuck again when it came to finding the grapple, but that was the last time. This made me begin to lose interest in the game. Super Metroid is a fairly challenging game, especially the bosses. The case of having to find the dozens of secret passages adds considerably to the challenge (and is what caused me to get stuck twice). The bosses are interesting in their design and behaviors. Only 2 bosses in this game were a real pain. While I don't know their names, there's this 4-eyed thing that seems immune to damage except the lava it falls into (nice death effects!). I ended up getting game over twice because of it. The hardest boss was the main boss of Maridia, a lobster-like enemy. It's both powerful, hard to hit, and fast. Get hit by the gray goo and you're in real trouble. I got game over 6 times from this thing, even with 1299 in energy available (1099 plus 200 in reserve). Throughout the game, you, as Samus Aran, go around shooting alien enemies on the planet Zebes (which is also the setting of the first Metroid). Along the way are various power ups such as missiles, bombs, super missiles, power bombs, energy tanks, and reserve energy tanks. Other powerups like suits (the varia suit), enhancers (the grapple), boots (hi-jump boots), beams (the weapon, wave beam), and various other things (morph ball) which are often required, though some are not required. Energy is like HP or health. You start with a maximum of 99 units of energy, but can be extended to up to 1499 with 400 in reserve (giving a sense of 1899 as a total). Each energy tank or reserve tank adds 100 to the maximum. Each pack of missles, super missiles, or power bombs adds 5 to the maximum, and you start with 0 of each. You have an unlimited supply of regular bombs. My favorite element of Metroid is being able to access things you normally shouldn't have access to early. For example, having 599 in energy and 15 or so power bombs before first visiting Norfair is quite unusual. You'll have to figure out how you can do this but it can be done. Aside from getting stuck and those two very difficult bosses, I enjoyed this game and I'm already wanting to play it again. Overall (on a 1 to 5 scale, based on the time this game was made): Difficulty: 2 - hard Graphics: 4.5 - very good Music: 3.5 - somewhat good (it fits the theme, but seems a bit dull (it isn't my type)) Sound: 5 - superior (very fitting and sounds quite realistic) Game play: 4.5 - very good (it's fun getting access to things earlier than you're supposed to; it's the somewhat awkward controls that ruins it a little (especially the last half of the game)). Story: 4 - good (although lacking story elements, what few there are, the story is still good (lower rating because the lack of depth)) Overall: 4 - good Review ID: 10000000012177696 Was this review helpful? These games came out when I was younger but I didn't have the means to get them then. I got a FC Twin platform to play the older 16 bit SNES games and have built a collection of must have games for the platform. Super Metroid is definitely a must have as far as SNES is concerned. And after finally playing it I'd have to agree. For its time the graphics are outstanding, the storyline is awesome and nostalgic, and the overall game play is enthralling. It's definitely not easy to find, so if you run across it I would invest in getting it for yourself. Review ID: 10000000011075288 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 02/25/09 by: This is one of those exceedingly rare things that show the world what can be done with the medium they're presented in. Super Metroid is on many, many best-games-of-all-time lists, often in the top spot, and I couldn't agree more. Super Metroid is the most brilliant, well-executed game ever. The graphics are impressive for 16-bit, the animations are smooth, the sound is fantastic from top to bottom, the gameplay is both thrilling and challenging. Beat the game as quick as you can, or explore every nook and cranny of this huge, colorful, dangerous game world. It's your choice, play it how you like. Big, screen-filling bosses are numerous, and while the game recalls old favorites, there are always new enemies and new things to discover around every corner. Super Metroid should be a template for how games should be made. It's awesome in every sense of the word, and I'm so glad I have a copy. Do yourself a favor and get one. Now. Seriously. I'll wait. The music is haunting. The game is easy to learn. You can get lost in this one for sometime. My only complaint is that I wish the game was a little bigger and longer. For those new to the series this game is a fun and exciting adventure, with amazing music, excellent graphics (in it's time) and an overall amazing replay value. This epic game was a classic since its creation in 1994. For those familiar with the Metroid series, you may very well know that this game is very impressive compared to others in the series. Although the original Metroid and Metroid II were good games, Super Metroid or Metroid 3 has amazing improvements. Tons of new powerups such as the super missle, grapple beam and x-ray visor set a new bar for the Metroid games of the future. If you're a fan of the Metroid Game Boy Advanced games, Metroid Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion, you will recognize many similarities in Super Metroid. I currently own every single Metroid Game in the series, with the exception of the demo of Hunters for the Nintendo DS, and compared to other Metroid games, Super Metroid is an amazing and fulfulling continuation of the series and a must have for all Metroid fans and collectors. I also can tell those without familiarity with the series that this game is a must have for all SNES owners as it is probably one of the best games for the system. Superb responsiveness and quick buttons are what is needed to master this one. You can beat it a day if you have played it before but full item collection will take you a lot longer. Made in 1994 designed in the USA and my favorite for the series. Returning to the home world for the second time Samus discovers not everything is a dead as she originally thought. Many creatures from the first gens are back with larger maps and tougher puzzles. New weapons, and items, features to go with everything. Remember not just ammo and full health will keep you alive in this version you will need skill. goodnoodles out Review ID: 10000000007691701 Was this review helpful?
