Personal All-Time Favorite that is a Must-Have Classic
Review created: 10/03/07

Super Metroid is a game that everyone from its era remembers and cherishes. Its predecessors redefined action gaming. This game perfected it.

On eBay, people are looking to buy games worthy of collecting and playing both. As for a game that one must play, I highly recommend this game. I recommend buying it on the Wii through the Virtual Console as well. Though, the game is dramatically improved with a Wii Classic Controller. As a game to collect, I once again can't stress this more. It is a must-have game in your collection. Thanks.

Have a good day,

Matt

If not THE best one of the top five SNES games. From Metroid II you had limited powers and can only hold one beam at a time. In Super Metroid you can now combine beams and use a charge function to increase the power. The Grapple Beam which enables you to swing across a special block and destroy some enemies. This legendary item made way for its many uses in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. It also introduced a Space Pirates appearence for the first time and closed the Zebes chapter. The control was easy to learn and prevented you from going into Speed Booster unwillingly. The Ridley, Kraid, Metroids, and Mother Brain are still present to keep the classic feel alive but Draygon and Phantoon were new threats to keep the series interesting. Also new areas were added to this game to actually make the items that were being collected extremely useful.

I recently went back and dug out my SNES and found this game and remembered how much I used to love playing it. I fired this game up and this time I used a internet walkthrough, and for a SNES game, this one is very elaborate and has lots of play time, plenty of involvement and its challenging terrain. I like the fact that there is so much to do and a big map to play on, explore many different sections of a planet and find yourself getting sucked into this great game. If you have a SNES please buy this classic and try it, definitely my favorite Metroid I've played so far!!!
What didn't I like about this game??? ummm....
Nothing comes to mind, maybe it could have been harder with bosses, I don't think I died at all, which makes the game "easy"....yeaa....it could have been more diffuclt to win this game. =)

  SUPER METROID IS AWESOME
Review created: 11/10/09

I LOVE this game, the controls are simple, easy to learn, and very customizable so you can't really complain. The level design is brilliant and will try to fool you VERY often. The game is non linear like Castlevania 2(NES) or Blaster Master(NES), so you will find yourself backtracking every so often to find hidden items like missile expansions and E-tanks. There are 5 bosses if you don't count Ridley on Deserted Ceres Space at the beginning of the game. The game is fairly long. The game is also fairly easy, which is the 1 aspect of the game that I don't like. If you own an SNES pick this game up! Better than most overrated crap released today on the Ps3, Xbox 360, and Wii.

  Super Metroid, Great game
Review created: 11/04/09
by:

I had googled the top 100 best games of all time and Super Metroid was on the top 10. Since I had the game before, I decided to buy it back again. For a super nintendo game it is large. If you like exploration, this is a good game to play. There are many secret areas and hidden items to find. There are areas of the game that require you to figure out how to move ahead so there is some puzzle solving. On top of that there is the action part of the game. While you explore you have different creatures and bosses you have to defeat. With these attributes, they make Super Metroid a memorable game to play.

This is exactly what i was looking for. There is no store that sells retro games, so my options were limited. I love video games, especially old school games. I bought it because it is a classic that i have never played.

  A stellar game.
Review created: 09/25/09

SUPER METROID, by far, has to be one of the greatest games of all time. It is no coincidence that this game ends up near the top of just about any "greatest game of all time" video game list you could read. That is no exaggeration. The graphics, music, and game-play equal more than the sum of their parts; the only way to experience this game is to play it. This game is atmospheric and lonely. You really feel you could get lost in this world. Do not pass up this opportunity to experience this game for yourself.

A+. Five Stars.

Must have game for Wii or Super Nintendo
Review created: 08/15/09

this game paved the way for many great games afterwards. this was not a new concept (the original came out for the regular NES years before), but it was so polished at the time and was a longer game than most, that it really pushed the limits of gaming at the time in a good direction. The pattern set in this game has been repeated in several succeeding Metroid games and also Castlevania games since then: i.e. start out with minimal weaponry/abilities, have a huge map that you can't get to every part of, and a quest of having to collect the weapons or abilities to increase access to different areas of the map. graphics are great for the game at that time and of course, metroid has always had great music in its serries that greatly matches the environments. A must-have for Super Nintendo players or a must-add in the Wii downloadable games library.

One of the greatest 2D games ever produced!
Review created: 07/06/09

This game, second only to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, is a masterpiece of 2D gaming. The single greatest Super Nintendo game in my opinion, Super Metroid is addictive. The relatively short experience is countered by challenging bosses, quality gameplay, and a creative, beautifully rendered environment. The game is difficult but not impossible, making for a rewarding experience. There are multiple endings based on play time, which offers replay value. It is well worth the $15.00 cost. I would say it is better than Castlevania, only you can't kill death in Super Metroid.

  The ultimate 2D adventure
Review created: 06/28/09

Honestly, this one ties with Castlevania: Symphony of the night for ultimate 2D sidescrolling adventure. Super Metroid contains a vast amount of replayability, fun, intense boss battles, and some of the best music ever composed for a game. In these days when games have a budget as big as most Hollywood movies, that is saying a lot.

different pages!!! And a lot of these offers are FREE trials with
nothing else to buy...No commitments!!!

There are plenty of cool offers to choose from such as Blockbuster
online, Stamp.com, Netflix, Gamefly which are services you would
regularly sign up for anyways and their all secure networks, why not use
them to get a free PS3 System or cash (I did the Stamps.com for a 30 day
free trial and it never cost me a penny and I received credit for it the
same day). Look at the offers and choose the one that works for you.
After signing up and completing your one offer, simply refer 8-13 people
(depending on the FREE prize you choose) to do the same under your link
(just post the same thing as I have on eBay, and you'll get your
referrals before the auction even ends.)

Then they will ship your PS3 System or your selected item for free, I
chose the PS3 80gb System. No Joke, 100% REAL!!! The reason these
companies make money, is because most people don't bother getting all
the referrals. All you have to do is post it ! They use us as

  A very good deal
Review created: 06/11/09(updated 06/11/09)

The game I purchased, Super Metroid, is one of my favorite all time games. I was very pleased to find a very reasonable deal that also had the manual, which I really like as well. The product seems to work (hopefully it will stay that way) and I'm very satisfied overall, it was just what I wanted. :)

  Action-packed and challenging
Review created: 05/29/09
by:

I've played Super Metroid back when you could rent it, but I was unable to figure out what you were supposed to do, getting stuck in Norfair (needing to get the Varia Suit). With much more skill with games now, I decided to buy it so I could try again.

Yet, I got stuck in the same spot again. Thankfully, GameFAQs came to my rescue, but only used to get "unstuck". I got stuck again when it came to finding the grapple, but that was the last time. This made me begin to lose interest in the game.

Super Metroid is a fairly challenging game, especially the bosses. The case of having to find the dozens of secret passages adds considerably to the challenge (and is what caused me to get stuck twice). The bosses are interesting in their design and behaviors. Only 2 bosses in this game were a real pain. While I don't know their names, there's this 4-eyed thing that seems immune to damage except the lava it falls into (nice death effects!). I ended up getting game over twice because of it. The hardest boss was the main boss of Maridia, a lobster-like enemy. It's both powerful, hard to hit, and fast. Get hit by the gray goo and you're in real trouble. I got game over 6 times from this thing, even with 1299 in energy available (1099 plus 200 in reserve).

Throughout the game, you, as Samus Aran, go around shooting alien enemies on the planet Zebes (which is also the setting of the first Metroid). Along the way are various power ups such as missiles, bombs, super missiles, power bombs, energy tanks, and reserve energy tanks. Other powerups like suits (the varia suit), enhancers (the grapple), boots (hi-jump boots), beams (the weapon, wave beam), and various other things (morph ball) which are often required, though some are not required. Energy is like HP or health. You start with a maximum of 99 units of energy, but can be extended to up to 1499 with 400 in reserve (giving a sense of 1899 as a total). Each energy tank or reserve tank adds 100 to the maximum. Each pack of missles, super missiles, or power bombs adds 5 to the maximum, and you start with 0 of each. You have an unlimited supply of regular bombs.

My favorite element of Metroid is being able to access things you normally shouldn't have access to early. For example, having 599 in energy and 15 or so power bombs before first visiting Norfair is quite unusual. You'll have to figure out how you can do this but it can be done.

Aside from getting stuck and those two very difficult bosses, I enjoyed this game and I'm already wanting to play it again.

Overall (on a 1 to 5 scale, based on the time this game was made):
Difficulty: 2 - hard
Graphics: 4.5 - very good
Music: 3.5 - somewhat good (it fits the theme, but seems a bit dull (it isn't my type))
Sound: 5 - superior (very fitting and sounds quite realistic)
Game play: 4.5 - very good (it's fun getting access to things earlier than you're supposed to; it's the somewhat awkward controls that ruins it a little (especially the last half of the game)).
Story: 4 - good (although lacking story elements, what few there are, the story is still good (lower rating because the lack of depth))
Overall: 4 - good
