| Description As always with any Nintendo game console, the first Super Mario game is one of the defining experiences on the system. Join Mario as he ushers in a new era of video games, defying gravity across all the planets in the galaxy. When some creature escapes into space with Princess Peach, Mario gives chase, exploring bizarre planets all across the galaxy. Since he's in space, Mario can perform mind-bending jumps unlike anything he’s done before. He'll also have a wealth of new moves that are all based around tilting, pointing and shaking the Wii Remote. Special Features Warnings Mild Cartoon Violence

Top ReviewsReview created: 02/01/08 6 of 7 people found this review helpful. After reading other reviews, people tend to either completely love this game, or it just can't catch on with them. This is the first Mario game that takes place outside the Mushroom Kingdom and has more of a "real life" aspect to it - having to do with outer space and planets. I decided to just outright buy the game instead of rent, and that was a good choice. The controls are outstanding. They keep it simple and use 95% of the old controls and moves from Super Mario 64 on Nintendo 64 - Which, in my opinion, was one of the best Mario games of all time! It's really easy to control Mario with the Nunchuk in the left hand, and use the remote to point a "star" on the screen and collect certain items on the screen. Two players can "play" at the same time, with the 2nd player using only a star pointer to collect items and freeze enemies, and they also can help Mario reach high places by "clicking" on him at his highest jump point to give him an extra boost. Now your friends don't have to sit and watch you play, they can help you too! The camera angle can't be changed a majority of the time, but Nintendo does a great job of keeping a good angle on you at all times - very rarely is the camera in a bad position. The graphics are some of the best ones I've seen on Wii so far. It's entertaining to see how far Mario has come from the older systems! The component hi-def cables are highly recommended as there is a fairly noticable difference between the two, at least in my opinion. The hi-def cables round off the graphics and allow smoother animations to fully enjoy the graphics of this game. The gameplay is very fun and addictive, as I've never had that repetitive feeling just yet. Each "star" you have to collect (121 in all) is a different mission. Nintendo really comes up with some creative ideas on using the systems functions and remote! Mario goes from planet to planet (instead of stage to stage) and each planet has it's own "theme". It makes me want to keep going in the game just to see what will come up with next! Without giving anything away, I'll stop right there! It's definitely a little different than any other Mario game, but if you give it a chance most likely you won't stop playing! If you liked Super Mario 64, this is a MUST have for you! Very similiar, and some people even believe it to be a sequel! Review ID: 10000000005321896 Was this review helpful? You press A to jump, B to shoot star bits, and a shake of the remote spins Mario. The new spin move is particularly useful because not only can you use it to attack enemies, you can also spin in mid-air to correct your jumps. You'll be glad it exists when you miss your jump but that little spin saves you from dying. Graphics: 10/10 Super Mario Galaxy is definitely one of the best looking Wii games to date. While the idea of space may be black and empty, Nintendo did an excellent job coming up with different galaxies that are rich with colorful activity. All the planets are detailed with reflections or particles and like Sunshine, Galaxy has beautiful water effects. I was most impressed by the fuzz that covers the bees and spiders. Galaxy also has its fair-share of cut scenes and although impressive to watch, it is certainly annoying that you can't skip them like most games these days. Thankfully most are short but if you happen to struggle against a certain boss, you can expect to see the same cut scene over and over again. Story: Contrary to the typical Mario games, Galaxy isn't all about saving Peach and fighting Bowser. If other reviews give Galaxy's plot a low score, they obviously haven't played it through to the end. After collecting a minimum amount of stars, the power goes back to the back to the back of the Observatory and the library is open for storytelling. I don't want to go into too much detail but the book tells about the history of the Lumas and reminds me of Le Petit Prince. Replayability: 10/10 With 120 stars to collect, it's a standard Mario game length. There are many galaxies that are worth revisiting because they are unique and fun to play through again. There are also “challenge comets” that appear on different galaxies which appear randomly as you progress through the game. Speedy comets for example make you zip through the level in four minutes to get the star while Daredevil comets have you fighting bosses with only one health point. Galaxy definitely ramps up in difficulty so gamers should have their fill of fun. Audio: 10/10 Nintendo finally stopped being cheap and hired a full orchestra for one of their big games. Galaxy has a great soundtrack and while the tunes aren't as addicting as when you first played through Mario 64, the music definitely fits the different galaxies nicely. Pros: A great looking Wii game? Yes it's finally here. Great controls. Fully orchestrated. It's a Mario game. Come on. Cons: Very rare camera/view problems. Overall: 10/10 Reviewer's Score: 10/10 Game Release: Super Mario Galaxy (JP, 11/01/07) Review ID: 10000000004897988 Was this review helpful? Report this review |
