For example, there are 150 stars in this game, 30 more than the N64 version had. In addition, there are keys that you can collect to unlock mini games, there are plenty of courses, a large family of rabbits with plenty of secrets, and a lot more. This game is one that will keep you busy for a long time.

3-D Graphics on a Mario title are not new but they work very well on this title. Graphics flow smoothly and flawlessly and are sharp. game play changes consistently. Vibrant colors galore!

MINI GAMES.... YES!!! They have done it again! The mini games keep this one fresh every time you boot up your system.

Super Mario 64 DS (2004.) A Nintendo DS rerelease of 1996's Super Mario 64, with new features.

Super Mario 64 was an amazing Nintendo 64 game - which wowed audiences all around the world when it was launched with the Nintendo 64. Unfortunately for Nintendo, the 64-bit gaming system went under faster than any system they had ever released before, and many of the classics were forgotten. Until now. The Nintendo DS, Nintendo's new portable gaming system, is STRONGER than the 64-bit system, and that old favorite is getting new life here. Read on for my review of Super Mario 64 DS.

PROS:
-THIS IS MORE THAN THE ORIGINAL N64 GAME. I was hesitant to buy this because I already own the Nintendo 64 version. However, I bought it anyway, and I'm glad I did. There are all kinds of new areas, and you can play as more characters than you could in the original game. There are also new minigames and multiplayer modes.
-THE GAME LOSES VIRTUALLY NOTHING IN THE TRANSLATION TO THE NINTENDO DS. I was afraid that this game would lose a lot when it was transferred to a portable system - I was stupid to have those fears. Pretty much everything from the original game and then some is here.
-TONS OF LEVELS. The many levels were one of the things I loved about the original release of this game, and they're all back. There are many new additions to them, and many new levels altogether! This game is much more than the original was.
-CONSIDERABLY LESS GLITCHING THAN THE N64 VERSION. The N64 version was Nintendo's first venture into full 3D gaming, and it was plagued with glitches. Not true here. The graphics here are a bit more simplistic and to the point, and I like it like that.

CONS:
-THE CONTROL STYLE DOESN'T EXACTLY TRANSLATE RIGHT TO THE DS. The Nintendo 64 had analog control - something the DS lacks unless you're willing to control Mario with the touch pad. Using all these buttons in their configurations will feel weird at first. For instance, you must hold down a button if you want to run.
-VETERANS OF THE N64 GAME WILL HAVE AN INSTANT ADVANTAGE. Not that this is a bad thing, but still, if you already owned the game, you're going to be covering a lot of familiar territory.

OVERALL:
Overall this is a very good game, and I'm glad to see it get the long overdue revival it deserves. If you're one of the fortunate few that shelled out the cash for a Nintendo DS, this game is the obvious choice to buy with it. Mario rarely fails to please, and this is no exception.

A note first. I am a casual gamer. I have been gaming for about 14 years, but I never really gotten too hardcore. I enjoy titles that I can pick up, get comfortable with pretty quickly, and play. Now that we have that out of the way, on with my review.

Super Mario 64 DS is one of the best titles I have played in a number of years. I played a little of the original Super Mario 64 on the N64, but have found this version to improve upon an already excellent title. The controls are excellent, and there were only a few times that left me upset with how my character reacted to my input. The levels were varied and pretty. It is truly amazing that in ten years, Nintendo has developed a system that has the power of the N64 and fits in the palm of your hand.

The graphics are truly fantastic. Don't expect PS3 quality graphics, obviously, but the graphics are still improved over the N64 version. They are crisper and feel less like early 3D graphics. The colors also seem a little more vibrant.

The controls are easy, and Nintendo even gives you an option of three different control styles. I won't go into them here, but these different control schemes make it easy for anyone to pick up and play this title.

The most enjoyable aspect of the title was the inclusion of four playable characters. That's right, 4! You start out with Yoshi in the game, which is a definite break from the original title on the N64. You can unlock Mario, then Luigi, and finally Wario. The best part is that certain levels require you to use a certain character, and, trust me, this is easier than it sounds. The characters are nicely balanced, and you will probably pick a favorite fairly early on.

Finally, you have to collect 150 stars. However, you don't have to collect them all to "beat" the game. That is, to get to the final battle with Bowser, you don't need all of the stars. This gives the title quite a bit of replayability as you trying to get all the stars. I have spent probably over 30 hours so far, and I still don't have all the stars.

With a long amount of playtime, unique characters, gorgeous graphics, and easy controls, this title is definitely one of the best for the DS. Nintendo hit this one out of the park!

I bought this Item for my son since I recently purchased a DS lite system for him. The game is not bad, however due to the 3D that it is, it's difficult for him to play.

It might be a nice game as soon as you get the hang of it

The original Mario 64 with a cool new twist. Having the ability to play as Yoshi, Princess and all the rest of the Mario cast. The graphics as still as good as the original and the gameplay is still fun and additive.

I love this game because it's retro I bought it for my daughter for many reasons first it's a great game for all ages then because it's fun and there is no violance in it. All Mario games rock they also have great graphics.

My daughter recently received a Nintendo ds lite for christmas and has always liked the Super Mario series since she learned as a tottler how to play on our original SNES system. I just could not see her not wanting to try it on her new ds lite. She was very pleased to get this game. As is all of the Super Mario games, this one is a classic and a must have for your collection.

If you played this game ad nauseum on the Nintendo 64, you will be gravely disappointed to find that your jumps, slides, and flips do not work nearly as well with a touchpad screen--compared to an analog stick.

If you are too young to have played Mario 64, or missed it for some reason, be sure you check this out on your DS. It's still a great adventure game--and one of Mario's best.

If you have played the N64 version and still insist on picking this up, be sure that you have the DS thumbstrap for easier maneuvering. Use the "touch" setting for controls. If you bought a DS lite, you probably don't have a thumbstrap--you can purchase one from Nintendo.com.

When Super Mario 64 hit the streets it revolutionized the gaming industry as a 3D action adventure game. That same game, with plenty of additions and improvements is available here on the DS. Now you can play as Yoshi, Wario, Luigi, or Mario. Each character has a special strength that will come in handy in different senarios. This game has brought back all the old stars to collect and added lots of new ones to discover. The addition of all the mini-games make this an on the go must have. The pure and simple truth is that after 10 years Mario 64 is still one of the best games available and the DS version is only better. You'd better have a really good reason for not owning this game.

Mario games never get old to me and this is one of my favorite ones! I personally own just about every Mario Game ever made and love playing them. I really recommend that you buy this one because it is a really good one!

This is a great game, but if you've already played the original on the N64, there isn't much of a reason to buy it again at full price in my opinion.

as we all know super mario 64 for the nintendo 64 is one of the greatest platformers of all time. it was the 1st game to use a joystick controll and moveable cameras. and truly revolutionized the platforming industry.
now you can take it with you anywhere! and there is also 30 more stars this time around. so in all there is 150 stars. which by the way , is no easy accomplishment. i have gotten 134 stars and it has taken forveer , but is well wort hit!
and a thing i love about this is that they have no implemented 4 other characters into the action. so in some areas this game is easier, since in the original you might have to do a wal kick to backflip to jump onto a certain ledge. well now they have specail pwoerups for certain charaters. so now you can just use wario on that same ledge and just float up to the top. this makes the game more accesible to deifferent ages.
the graphics are great, really setting standards for DS games. and it really does use the bottom screen well.
i recomend this game to any nintendo fan, DS fan, or anyone new to this system.
overall this game gets a 9.75/10 in my book :)

This game is great. It's a lot like the original, but with a lot more featues. Don't worry if you already own the 64 version cause there are lots of new things to do on this one. You can play as different characters. The other characters are Yoshi, Mario, Luigi and Wario. They added minigames to this version, also. In adventure mode you can use the touch screan to control the characters. I had a lot of fun playing this and will replaying again, soon.

A great game, just as good as the original. BUT PORTABLE. This is what made you buy a DS in late '04, this game was the killer app.

I like that my children love this game! It's easy to play and understand for even a five year old, and even entertaining for an adult! Good all around game for the family to play.
