Super Dimensional Cavalry Southern Cross (DVD, 2003)

Southern Cross. Part of the Robotech saga, it was its own anime series in Japan. Because of Robotech, many people might think this series may be good on its own. However Tatusako rushed out a piece of crap that you don't really want to see the end of (and I didn't!!!).

The story is about Jeanne, a young 20 something girl who is a segretant in the military. Jeanne is not the military type. Goofy ball and a free spirit, she is constanly getting thrown in military jail for disobeying orders or going AWOL. However due to an invansion by aliens (yes think of Macross!!!) and her superior taking her jail sentence, she is able to prove herself in combat and is promoted to being a lit.

However, the story is very boring, bad, or plain rip-off of Macross. The plot drags on and on without really making a point, and you really don't know, remember or what it is about. The only thing I remember is when Bowie meets the alien, Musica, and when Jeanne haves to befriend a rescued solider who is brain-washed into being a spy for the aliens. If you seen Macross, you know what happends with these situations with the alien peace making. Through the music is very good for this weak show and is the only good point of it.

Character and mechas designs: Horrible, bad, ugly. Very, very 80s. Looking very spacey and very impractical clothes for the characters. Mechas are very blocky and unstylish. No interesting attacks or anything special about them.

Overall, SC is not worth the money or the time to watch. Avoid at all costs.
