The Sunflower by Bonny V. Fetterman, Harry James Cargas, Simon Wiesenthal (1998, Paperback)

I am a christian who enjoys horror novels and mystery novels. This book was interesting, but hard to read. We read it for our book club and had mixed reviews. I could only read a few portions at a time. The history of the Nazi's was good. He lightly touches upon experience in the camps and I wonder if it is because of not wanting to focus on that horror as opposed to the confession. Once I got through the confession, it was very thought provoking. The symposium at the end was way too long. There are bios of the authors contributing at the very end. It would have served a better purpose under their names because you didn't know who was who otherwise. Read that first if your going to get the book and read the symposium. We had a really good discussion on this book, so for that I am happy. I would not have read this book otherwise.

If you want to think about forgiveness, this is the book for you.

I bought the book because an acquaintance was talking about it and asking people what they would do. While reading it, I kept trying to imagine what life was like during the Holocaust. Though it is not light reading, it is good reading. I think we should all consider reading the book and put some serious thought into the author's questions.

It is very interesting to read the different viewpoints of the many contributors to this book.
