Album Notes Personnel: Shannon McArdle (vocals, guitar); Adam D Gold (various instruments); Philip McArdle (electric guitar). Long-running indie rockers the Mendoza Line split in 2007, following the divorce of the band's primary singers and songwriters, Shannon McArdle and Tim Bracy. For her debut solo album following the band's split, McArdle has penned a deeply personal, sometimes acidic account of those upheavals with the provocative title SUMMER OF THE W****. A distaff alt-country-influenced take on Bob Dylan's BLOOD ON THE TRACKS or Richard and Linda Thompson's SHOOT OUT THE LIGHTS, SUMMER OF THE W****'s lyrical intensity is set to McArdle's tense near-whispered vocals and hushed, spartan arrangements. The combination makes an album that sounds as if McArdle is ready to explode with some combination of rage and grief, but is, just barely, keeping herself composed. Highlights include the title track and the withering "Leave Me For Dead." Editorial Reviews Magnet | See an error? Submit a change request | ||||||||||||
