Summer Rental (DVD, 2001, Sensormatic)

Great family movie, John Candy is at his best as a Chicago air controller forced to take his family on vacation to Florida. Rip Torn is also great as a one-handed modern day "pirate" who becomes Candy's drinking buddy and sailing instructor. Just a well-done comedy with many good lines, nothing to offend (well, hardly nothing) anyone in the family.

This is a very good funny family movie. I love to watch this when I' not feeling well It all ways cheers me up. If you have not ever seen it, it has John Candy in it and I always liked him. I have this movie on vhs, but it is starting to wear out, so I thought I would replace it on DVD. I searched everywhere for it at retail stores but was unlucky. When all else fails I go to e-bay. I was very skeptical at first to buy a DVD on line, but I asked a few question and I am so glad I bought this DVD. It is a first rate DVD. I bought it for a real great price. I will shop with this seller again. In fact I have. The product is just what they say and I'm very happy with that. I have already watched it a few times; it is a nice feel good movie.

I always liked John Candy, his movies are generally hits with many comical parts as this one is. This story is becomming dated but still lots of laughs. It's still a fun family movie with vacation experiences many can relate to. A family takes a vacation getting away from the city to stay at the beach. Of course they end up in a rental that is a dump, nothing like they expected. After adjusting they begin to truly enjoy their surroundings, meeting interesting people, sharing experiences. They begin to reflect on what's really important in life, being together. They take on a sailing challenge against the local, arrogant tycoon and win! Fun movie.

Summer Rental is a classic John Candy movie. It has lots of gags and a great story about a family on a beach vacation. Rip Torn is excellent as the restaurant owner/skipper. Its a very funny movie...a must see.

I remember this movie as one of my favorites from the 80's. I am a huge John Candy fan, and this is him at his best. Plus, it co-stars Kerri Green (who I used to think, and still do, was so beautiful) in one of her only roles besides Lucas and The Goonies. I am always searching for movies, music, etc. to fill that craving for 80's nostalgia and this is one that has been on my list to purchase for a long time. I looked in all the local stores but could never find it, so when I found it for such a great price, I decided to just go ahead and buy it. I have already watched it several times and shared it with my husband who had never seen it. So if you are looking for a light-hearted comedy starring one of the funniest guys to ever grace the screen, this is for you.

Well, I decided to buy the DVD Summer Rental because it is one of my husbands favorite movies that he can watch over and over again. And, one I enjoy also. It is an older movie and would be hard to find in the stores and it is much simplier to buy on ebay and have it delivered to my house. Jeanne
