A great thriller. Even though I'd read the book years ago, this kept me on the edge of my seat -- the two hours flies by given the tight, intense plot.

Of course, like all the Jack Ryan stories, the "one man saves the world" plot is kind of over the top! Yet, if you take that in stride, it's a superbly acted film. Morgan Freeman is fantastic, and Ben Affleck makes a very good "young" Ryan -- though the story would be much more believable had Ryan been older, as he was in the original novel.

Those who haven't read the book may enjoy the movie more than those who have, because this film is significantly different from the original novel. There are at least 3 major plot changes -- the worst being a total displacement of the series' chronology. This becomes a PREQUEL to the other Ryan stories / films, while the original novel has this as a SEQUEL to movies like Hunt for Red October, Clear & Present Danger, etc. And at times that left me pretty confused. I still enjoyed the film, but the changes were somewhat frustrating.

Overall, I'm glad to have added this to my collection. The movie is well done. It's just not a very faithful adaptation of the book.

One of the best movies based on a Tom Clancy book.
Liev Shreiber is the best John Clark ever...playing the character with the perfect mix of mystery and menace which makes him so intriuging in Clancys' books.

Needed this movie to finish my Tom Clancy "Jack Ryan" dvd collection. This is definately not the best movie in the series but Ben Afflek does a passable job

The lack of action at the start made it some what dull but once the action started it did get interesting and held my attention. If you like bombs, terrorists, cia and minimal russian conversations with english captions, you will enjoy this.

Morgan Freeman is outstanding, as usual. I even kind of liked Ben Affleck in this one, and I usually don't care for his acting.

The movie has great acting, great action and is down-to-the-wire exciting. Some of language is unnecessarily harsh since the movie would have been equally good without it. While all movies are never as good as the book, this one goes too far away from the book's plot. The other Tom Calncy movies follow the book more closely and are none-the-worse for that. eBay is a good place to buy movies since you can often buy them for less than the cost of a nation-wide chain movie rental store.

I did not like Ben as an early "Jack." They had some things out of order compared to the books - the plot really skipped around the book a lot and did not follow the ending....I was just not as impressed with this movie as I have been the others

Very good movie, good acting and I would watch it again. I read the reviews about it and it was a lot better then I thought it would be. I recommend it to everyone.

Excellent movie. Seen some of it on t.v. and it looked like a good movie, so I bought it. Lots of action and suspense. Keeps you on the edge of your seat type of movie. Do you like the taste of your stomach?, because it will be in your throat!
This is a movie that you want to make sure that you have no interruptions. There was nothing that I disliked about the movie. A 2 thumbs up movie.

A bit overdone, sometimes jerky script,as when nuclear device detonates & Afflects' Dr/girlfriend is blown backwards from imploding glass window & later has no injuries. Though good action,good special effects & for me Morgan Freeman & Ben Afflect make a good team on screen.

The movie was based on alliances between the United States and Russia. Morgan Freeman and Ben Affleck was working for the CIA dealing with a bomb that hit the United States.

I love tom clancy and when i seen this dvd was based on the book i just had to get it to see how close it was to the book i really liked the book so i just needed to see. it is a good movie i would recommend it to someone else if they asked

Great movie with a lot of wonderful acting. Already had this movie on VHS, but just had to add it to my DVD collection. Also, the price was excellent.

I HAVE ALLWAYS LOVE THIS MOVIE. IT IS A REALISTIC STORY OF FOREIGN POLICY AND MODERN CONFLICTS. THE DVD HAD A SCRATCH AT THE END BUT IT DIDN'T EFFECT IT'S PLAY.
