Great RPG! - With A Very Fun And Interesting Game Play.

Suikoden III has many of the usual Turn Based RPG(Role Playing Game) features such as characters with different skill sets(Axe Wielding, Sword Fighter, Magic User etc.) and has very typical fight sequences. Fairly good graphics although some awkward camera angles at times. You can build your characters up to higher levels to increase skills and equip lots of new weapons, armor and magic. These of course are what you would expect from any decent RPG.

What I really liked about this game is the Trinity Site System within the game. The Trinity Site System lets you play the very same game from several different perspectives. The main plot of the story is a world that has three distinctly different kingdoms that begin to fall into conflict with one another. At the beginning of the game you choose one of the three main characters and begin to see the world and all of the events through that characters eyes and your perspective of who is good and who is evil is based upon that perspective. As the game progresses you will have opportunities to switch characters and see events from a different angle. You then begin to find your characters on apposing sides and your sympathies with both. You will also cross paths with the other characters at varying points throughout the story. This creates an incredibly fun invironment to play in which you can't wait to finish a portion of the game so that you can switch characters and see the chain of events from their perspective. In addition, each of your characters has there own set of challenges and missions to complete. They also meets additional friends and allies that join in your quest also known as the "108 Stars". These additional friends and allies have their own unique skills and side quests to complete that all plays back into the main storyline. Most of the "108 Stars" can also be brought into the story to mix and match you group so that you can create unique fighting moves based on how you pair them up. The game culminates at the end when............ (don't worry, I won't give it away.)

* Basic Role Playing Game

* Good Graphics

* Fun Characters, Events and Missions

* Unique Game Play/Perspective with Trinity Site System

Suikoden III
Quest with the 108 stars of Destiny

Type of Game: RPG
System: PS2
Game Developer: Konami

This is the third part in a long running RPG series from Konami, There’s Suikoden and Suikoden II both worth checking out. Enter the land of Grassland in Suikoden III. Where war and conflict have been between the six clans of Grassland, Zexen Federation, and Holy Kingdom of Harmonia. What’s different in Suikoden III you play the story thru the eyes of three characters. Geddoe a captain of the small defense force of Harmonia. Hugo a son of grasslander chief Lucia. Then Chris a captain of the knights of Zexen. You choose whom to start the game out as you see the story progress by three points of view. There are many secrets to this game so I won’t spoil them for you. This game took me 89 hours to beat and this is opening all the secrets up! It’s a deep game with traditional RPG battles but later in the game you will have some strategy battles as well. Also the gathering of the 108 stars of destiny. Where each person has a skill to help you during the game. This game has a great story, great characters, and some good cinemas as well. Two things the make the score 8.5 is the fetch quests and the lack of more places to visit. I recommend you buy this game, and stop reading this review so you can go play this great RPG!

My review score for Suikoden III = 8.5
(Score is 1 is throw it out and 10 is a must buy!)

If curious my review scores for Suikoden = 9.0 and Suikoden II = 8.5 (Score is 1 is throw it out and 10 is a must buy!)
Reviewed by Eric Schneider

Also Suikoden IV is out now in stores! Go buy this game!

  Why I bought Suikoden III...

I bought this game over a month ago and have not played it yet. I mainly bought this game because this game is already hard to find, I figured that it would be a rare game just like the two previous entries are. The game was listed as being mint, like new, and the condition the game was in fits this description perfectly. This is one of those RPG games that is on my long list of games to play (which includes finishing Rogue Galaxy, finishing Odin Sphere- a great game by the way, and all of the Final Fantasy games I have not played yet- 1,2,4 &5). By the reviews I have heard from this game it sounds as if it will be a great one. I look forward to playing this game in the future!

This game is horrible. As simple as that. Cannot come close to Final Fantasy at all. I bought this game because i looked on IGN.com and they gave it a 9.4 out of 10 and they said quote "The only RPG to compete with Final Fantasy X" and trust me on this THEY WERE WRONG. Waste of money period.

  Great RPG!

RPG's are my favorite game genre and Suikoden III is one of the best I have ever played, I put it in my top 3 most favorite RPG's and quite possibly my favorite games of all time along with FFX and Xenosaga Ep. 1. You will play as 3 different main characters and one sub character, all of these characters stories weave into one anothers and it is cool too see the events from their different perspectives. Eventualy you will have a decision too make later in the game which of the 3 characters will become the main one. The battle system is very fun, it uses 6 people instead of the traditional 3 and kind of like Chrono Trigger you can combine characters special attacks too do some devestating damage. The game has some excellent villians also and their are times in the game that they are so much better than you that you absolutly can not beat them though it is ok too lose theese battles, it really gives you a feeling of dread but it also makes it so much sweeter when later in the game you are able too finally take them down. I should also mention the one on one duels which are a blast, think of them as paper rock scissors where you have too guess your opponents next move based upon what he says in order too use the stronger move. Suikoden's graphics are not fantastic but they fit the game very nicely and it has some excellent music. If you are an RPG fan then Suikoden III will provide you with hours and hours of fun not only in it's main quest but also in it's quest too recruit every one of the 108 stars of destiny too fight along side of you. Suikoden III deserves a place in your RPG library so pick it up if you can find it.

Always been a fan of the Suikoden Series, I forgot how well the trinity sight was. Though not as good as 1 and 2 it still add it's own unique quality. No other Suikoden has Ducks and Lizards that fight on your side. Not many rpgs delve towards that I think it's kool and the storyline is great as usual

I have suikoden 1 and suikoden 2 I want another suikoden 3 as a collectors item cause my play copy isnt mint lol, I will tell most people that are here to just run up the bidding for a new rpg to stay away. This is not like suikoden 2 its a ways from it and does not feel like that. Also the battle system lacks a few things from the originals but gives back its own feel imho. Despite some others reviews that seem to be in depth of this game I will sum it up easily, I am a older gamer and next gen games dont compare to older gen games. This is the first Suikoden for PS2 and is imo the best suikoden IV is dismal and Suikoden V is hit and miss in some aspects. Dont come into this comparing Suikoden 2 with Suikoden 3, they are diffrent animals. This is not Final fantasy in disguise lol the trinity system is very original and I enjoyed it very much from the standard battle system square enix uses.

If your skipping Suikoden 2 in hopes of landing a cheaper better game you problay will not find it here. Suikoden 2 is the best of the 5 and rightfully so the people that have it want to keep it. I hope Suikoden VI follows suikoden III's path.

This isn't Suikoden: it's Final Fantasy in disguise. The character interface totally lacks the user-friendliness of the first 2 games. The controls are also more cumbersome (having to rely at all on the analog sticks was a big turn-off). While I didn't mind the perspective from 3 characters aspect (quite original!), I didn't like that without the strategy guide, or at least the anime' novels, it's all but impossible to complete this game in any great depth (like Final Fantasy you miss a LOT without the stategy guide, & if you can't find a copy of that you're pretty much out of luck). The skill point system was totally unnecessary & out of spirit with the Suikoden genre (It could have been labelled "Final Fantasy: Suikoden" instead), & a royal headache that lacks the feel of the originals. I've yet to be able to finish this game, & I finished the first 2 with little fuss. A bitter disappointment!

Suikoden III - Konami shot for the stars, but hit a black hole
Review created: 02/28/03

Pros:
108 SoD, long quest, first 10 hours or so is good...

Cons:
...then the rest of it went down hill

As soon as the Playstation 2 was released in October 2000, much of the original Playstation s success had already been transferred to the PS2 with the amount of RPG s that the system has. Unfortunately, up until just recently, the PS2 has been quite the opposite of the Playstation in the sense of RPG s, at least when it comes to GOOD games. Just when the PS2 was about to hit a full year of nothing but mediocre RPG s, the last one being Final Fantasy X in December 2001, a couple RPG s came out in October-November that put the water back in the water mill; Grandia Xtreme and Suikoden III. After.

Upgraded to 3D, but Feels Slightly Downgraded Overall

Pros:
Immersive storyline, thought-provoking combat strategies

Cons:
Defined maps are inhibiting, the game paths you endlessly through the same zones/scenery

Back in the day when Suikoden first came out, it was pretty much a niche game. Most people had not heard of it, yet it gained some form of underground popularity that exploded with Suikoden II for those-in-the-know. The graphics have always been pretty simple when compared to other RPG titles available, yet Suikoden I and II have been so very compelling nonetheless. Could it be the varied combat which also incorporates strategy? Maybe it's the desire to recruit all 108 possible characters and play in the sandbox of a majestic castle you call your own? What about the great story that just gets.

Pros:
Trinity System, Graphics (At Times), Battle System

Cons:
The Worst Suikoden Game Thus Far, Doesn't Retain the Suikoden "Feel" Very Well

As far as RPGs go, I used to have a difficult time steering toward anything that wasn't made by Squaresoft, Enix, and Taito. This was back in the 16-bit generation when I really hit it big with the genre. I easily transitioned to giving other companies a chance with my gaming dollar, but it didn't take me long to realize that most RPGs nowadays just aren't my thing. I assumed this was the same with the original Suikoden when I saw screenshots of it for the first time, however when I had some extra cash to blow I reluctantly picked up Suikoden II later on for $29.99. In turn I played this game.

Pros:
good graphics, decent plot, cool castle customization

Cons:
no music/soundFX, bad leveling system, see review for more cons.

Suikoden fans, don t get me wrong. I ve played Suikoden 1 and 2. I am a believer that the Suikoden series is easily one of the most underrated rpg series out there. Suikoden 1 and 2 both make my top 10 list of my all time favorite rpgs, because despite the poor graphics, the amazing storyline and fast battles won me over. Suikoden 3 unfortunately did not do that for me. It attempts to follow in the series footsteps, but as both a standalone game or a sequel, it seems to reek badly, filled with tedious, tedious running about, redundant towns and cities, and a serious lack of originality....

  Suikoden III - Gaming Masterpiece
Review created: 10/31/02
by: LaughingTarget -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Nice visuals, great story, awesome gameplay.

Cons:
Some sounds are annoying.

When one thinks of a console RPG, the first thing in your head is probably Final Fantasy. While thiese suckers are awesome on their own right, don't let that fool you that this is the ONLY console RPG worth a purchase. About a month and a half ago, I was browsing through the local EB's used PS1 section, looking for some games I missed out on as I didn't jump to the PS1 bandwagon until early 1999. I picked up a little game called Suikoden and read the back. Hmm, armies, duels, castle building. "Looks sweet," I thought. Lo and behold, the game totally rocked. Not so much as a killer battle...
