Substance by New Order (CD, Jan-1987, 2 Discs, Qwest)

Will make an excellent Christmas gift for someone into that music genre. Will also become part of a collection that emphasizes that music specialty. Glad to find it! Will make a fantastic gift for this Holiday Season and will be greatly appreciated.

I first bought this collection on dual cassette in 1987, when I was 13. It became more or less my favorite "album" of all-time up to that point. I remember subjecting my parents to numerous listens over road trips and trips to the store. Basically it was a soundtrack to my life at that time, and listening to it now stills brings back crystal clear memories of these times on the road.

This work is a culmination of New Order's dominance of the new wave/dance scene from their first days (Ceremony originally was a Joy Division song) to their most recent singles Bizarre Love Triangle and True Faith. The second disc includes the b-sides of their respective a-tracks, in and of themselves quite up to the expectations we have of them, particularly the haunting "1963". This collection remains one of the best ever produced in my opinion, which is why I sought this out again instead of paying top dollar for substandard collections like "International" and "The Best Of...", which contain album length versions of many of my favorite tracks. With Substance, you get the full-length and extended versions of monsters like "Perfect Kiss", which allows the listener to experience the full breadth of emotion and care put into each track.

This is a perfect collection. I feel bad for not having owned it for quite some time. The cassette had long disentegrated from innumerable plays, and at least two purchases of the CD version had led to the first discs being swiped on both occasions. Now I have three copies of Disc 2, so I'll have to figure out what I'm going to do with those...

This is a must-have in any collection for everyone from die-hard New Order fans to casual fans of the '80s and its sound. As long as the copy is in good condition, you'll have no regrets with the purchase.

One of the best compilations of New Order circa 1980s. The extra disc contains different renditions (not exactly remixes) of disc 1 songs. I highly recommend this as an introduction to New Order and work your way backwards, then forward in their musical history. worth it!

I've loved new order ever since i was in high school so buying this cd brings back great high school memories. Classic tunes from an awesome 80's new wave band 2 thumbs up

This is the Best that New Order has to offer. They were the #1 band of the 80's. One of the leaders of "The British Invasion". The vocal are wonderful and the beats keep you moving.

I love this cd because it takes me back to my clubbing days in the late 80's. Since I'm a father of four boys now, I havn't heard some of these tune since my twenties. That why I bought it. The memories. To to be young again, at least in wild party tales I tell my sons.

I'm new to this and this is one of the first 2 things I looked for . The 1st were some opening day Sox tix . I had been looking for this since mine "just happend to disappear ". It came with in a couple of days and I played the second I opened it up .
The music is Great and I had my kids and their friends asking about the "artist". Real god music to dance too !

A good collection of their work. This album encompasses the band, so if you are a casual fan of the group this is all you really need.

New order's Substance is just a great collection of awesome New Order songs and extended version. I like them all. New order is upbeat, has a great tempo and for sure is great playing on the dance floor. New Order is by far one of the best, if not the best New Wave music out there that came out of the 80's. Some of my favorites are, 1963, Love Vigilantes, Blue Monday, Subculture, Bizarre Love Triangle, Perfect Kiss and True Faith. Buy a copy now and you won't be disappointed!
