Chilling Medical Thriller in the Aspen Mountains

Medical research goes awry in this provocative tale of mortality and resurrection by Director Philip Chidel. Subject Two is winner of several awards: Official Selection - Sundance Film Festival, Audience Award - Silver Lake Film Festival, Best Feature - Sci-Fi London Film Festival.

With the snowcapped beauty of the Aspen Mountains as a backdrop, this film expertly controls the pace of medical student Adam Smith's (Christian Oliver)dreadful realization that he is the subject - not the assistant, of Dr. Frank Vick's (Dean Stapleton) odd medical experiments. This movie's revelation of Dr. Vick's shocking attempts at playing God is reminiscent of Shelly's Frankenstein, with a clever modern twist.

Subject Two is filmed beautifully, with haunting sequences of medical experimentation that some may find disturbing. But, this audience reaction seems to be the intent of Director Philip Chidel. This movie brings us all to the puzzling questions of: the essence of our own mortality, immortality and our considerations of 'the quality of life'.

One of the bonus features on the DVD worth watching, is the making of the film. It's a very insightful look into this Independent Film Maker's trials and tribulations as his production is confined by budget constraints and hampered by the mountain terrain.

Overall, Subject Two is an engrossing story that will lead to excellent 'after-movie' conversations.

This movie is in a class all by itself, despite the altenative slant to "Frankenstein" that is clearly there. It is a superb film and at times shockingly visceral in it's portrayal of this new psuedo-science and the characters involved. One of the the things that I loved about this film was it's high plausiblility, given the research and and experiments being enacted all over the world in our today by many brilliant, if somewhat seemingly and actually immoral scientist and researchers. The characterisations were superb as was the superb acting and stunning cinematography, and when you add the most perfect ending that leaves you somewhat horror struck and stunned, what you have an exceptional film that will no doubt become a classic of our time as it's exposure spreads.
