The Student Prince (VHS, 1992)

This is a delightful movie. I like the sad story of unrequited love. I expecially love the magnificent voice of Mario Lanza and his voice is the reason I purchased this VHS.

I bought this video of the 50's musical, because we had recently visited Heidleburg, where most of the story takes place. I was curious to see if I could spot any scenes, filmed in places we had actually seen on our tour. Though the film seems to have been shot on Hollywood sets, we enjoyed the rather corny story & enjoyed singing along w/ the wonderful Mario Lanza's voice, coming from the mouth of actor Edmond Perdom.

As good as I remembered it from years ago. Great color, costumes, songs and a story you don't want to end. The "Drinking Song" is a classic and has been used in part by many advertisers over the years. Mario Lanza's voiceover was flawlessly done. I watched closely for a time when the actors mouth and the voice were out of sync. Couldn't find even a moment. Not available on DVD, but great on VHS.

I bought this as a gift. It came wrapped and looking brand new, it was exactly what the person wanted, and I decided to buy it because it was a fair price for what I was getting.

I!ve always loved this movie and wanted the video.It wasnt available anywhere else.My grandaughter told me how ti find it on e-Bay.

This movie is one of the most beautiful love stories I've seen. A little teary, but all in all a wonderful movie. Although it's called an operetta, the music is not stuffy as I think of opera. The voices of Mario Lanza and Ann Blyth are beautiful. Edmund Purdum who plays the prince is gorgeous for all the ladies. It's a ladies movie for sure, but it's also my husbands favorite movie.

I love all Mario Lanza movies but I had never seen this one. I truly thought Mario was in the movie. I was a bit surprised to find the movie was made for him but only his voice was used. I love watching Mario sing and cannot enjoy this movie as much as the others but will never part with it. I have a CD with the songs in this movie on it and I picture Lanza singing. Edmund Purdom did an excellent job portraying Mario except for the gusto that shows in Mario's whole body when he sings. I love it anyway.
