I bought the book for my husband for Christmas this last year. I read it first and thought it was excellent. A must read for every father or man who may have a daughter someday. A very realistic, forthright account of the importance fathers play in the lives of their daughters, especially in this toxic culture we live in. I'm convinced (after reading the book) that the reason why we have so many misguided, unhappy girls in the world is because they lack a strong father. I know, I was one of those girls and I had a very absent father.
If you're a man and have a daughter - read the book!

A Must Read Book for Parents & Grandparents
Review created: 12/29/07

This is by far the best parenting book that I've read, and I've read many good ones. It contains some eye-opening statistics that every parent, guardian, and grandparent should know and discuss frankly among themselves and directly, caringly with the girls they are raising.

This is a highly practical approach to the very difficult matter of developing healthy relationships between fathers and daughters, husbands and wives, and adults and offspring who are between the ages of 5 and 21. It requires achieving a balance between cultivating responsible behavior by fostering trust through openness, adhering to clear boundaries, and instilling life-long values.

What's especially impressive is that the book is based on the clinical experience and research of Dr. Meeker, a pediatrician who has dealt with hundreds of young girls, ranging from young children to college students. I consider this a "must read" for all dads, moms, and grandparents of girls.

  Great Condition, Good topics
Review created: 11/02/09

I bought the book based on a few recommendations. Just partially through the book now, but it is written in a very reader friendly format. There is alot of information given, without putting you to sleep. Good read for any father out there that wouldn't mind a few pointers from a daughters perspective.

I heard about this book on the Dave Ramsey Show. Had to have it. I have 3 girls under 5 yrs old. Glad I purchased it. It is fantastic! They are the simple truths that, as Dad's, we tend to forget about. They are reminded to us in this book. What a special read! This one needs to be passed along after a study. It's never too late to be there for your girls!

Train your daughter to resist our negative culture
Review created: 08/16/08
by:

Written by a pediatrician, the author presents an unassailable case for the value of a engaged father coupled with a religious foundation in inoculating our daughters against a toxic culture. Even for nonbelievers, it presents practical arguments for fighting against the messages force fed to our children that result in eating disorders, depression and risky sexual behavior.

For believers, it is a convincing treatise for not leaving instruction on such important issues to schools, churches and synagogues.

I particularly learned from the sections talking about the importance of humility (which is equated with weakness in our society) as well as the distinction between raising "princesses" (as many of we fathers tend to do) who expect happiness and fulfillment to be served on a silver platter to them by others, versus pioneer women who learn to seek their own path.

I expect to re-read this book several times as my daughter grows up.

Very good book---all fathers of daugthers have a responsibility to read it. This is a scary time for our children and we need to instill confidence in our daughters to make the right decisions and have pride when doing so.

Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters by Meg Meeker
Review created: 06/09/08

This book is being heavily promoted by Dave Ramsey as his best read for the year. I am an adult daughter whose dad could have used this book when I was a girl growing up with my sister. I have not read the book but I purchased the book for my father who was having surgery and could have been laid out for a few weeks or just a day or so. I can say that he could not put down the book and read the first 30 pages (not skimmed like he usually does) and said "We NEED to talk." I asked him later about what he thought of the book in a large group and he said kindly that we needed to talk about this together soon. So based on what he said...he sees that this book is very important for fathers to read to help his daughters grow to be strong women. I look forward to having that cup of coffee alone with my dad one day.

I'm only into the 2nd chapter but I couldn't put this book down! I haven't read a book in years, but this is soooo awesome! EVERY DAD NEEDS TO READ THIS BOOK IF THEY HAVE A DAUGHTER!! I can't even begin to explain the changes this is going to make in our lives! I truly know that buying this book is one of the best things I've ever done for my daughters.

I bought the book as a birthday gift for one of our sons-in-law. I don't think he's read it yet, he will soon. He's quite a reader.
It was recommended by Dennis Raney of Family Life, so I feel confident about the message.

I have found this book to be a huge resource for dads that have daughters. It is not a fix-all book or a how-to book. It will change your paradigm as a father and how you relate and interact with your daughter. If you have a daughter, you have to read this book!! I have been purchasing it for all my friends that say they will read it.

This book is EXCELLENT! It is a real EYE OPENER to the amount of influence a father has on his daughters. It give fathers motivation to be the strong, masculine, real men that will stand up for their daughters and become their heros. This book is a breath of fresh air in a culture where men have been taught to be wimps.
