Album Notes
The Pogues include: Shane MacGowan (vocals); Phil Chevron (guitar); James Fearnley (accordion); Jon Moss (drums).
Recorded live in 1991. Includes liner notes by Alan Robinson.
In the late 1970s--call it punk rock, new wave, whatever--people had ideas of doing what hadn't been done before. So a group of Irish musicians in London decided to mix traditional Irish folk songs with rough-and-tumble, Clash-like rock & roll, and the Pogues were born. This set captures the band in a rowdy (what else?), heartfelt live performance from 1991, when founding member Shane MacGowan was still in the picture. They could be darkly sentimental ("Dirty Old Town") or jovial ("Sunny Side of the Street"), but the Pogues could always be counted on to show a crowd (or home listener) a good time.
