Hank III: Straight To Hell

From playing bass for heavy metal group Superjoint Ritual, touring in and with many small punk bands in Van’s Warped Tour, and to being the third generation of a country music legacy, Hank Williams III seems to not have a grasp on any one solid musical reality. But what is really ironic about this however is that Hank III arguably records some of the best music that is currently being released in today’s sad, disgraceful country music scene. Another breath of fresh air and his third official full-length release, “Straight to Hell” is definitely no exception to his now-symbolic hillbilly punk persona. Switching genres from barroom to honky-tonk to bluegrass and back again, “Straight to Hell” is a very political and powerful album. Hank III really takes advantage of his first amendment right and is not at all afraid to express what is on his mind, whether he sings about the horrors of pop-country music or drugs and alcohol. Highly entertaining and highly recommended, “Straight to Hell” makes its mark as one of the best country albums of the 00’s.
