The Story of the World by Susan Wise Bauer (2007, Unabridged, Compact Disc)

As the title suggests, this book gives a great overview of many major events of history. It is written in a story like fashion, which keeps the childrens interest. It is not a complete history, however, for youngsters, it can be used to "get their feet wet" since, at this age, children need to learn that history is fun and interesting, not just a bunch of boring facts. This is a great addition to our homeschool library, and can also be adapted to use with older grades if necessary. To add a visual effect to what is being taught, adding a few encyclopedias such as Usborne Book of World History, etc. brings the stories to life -- additionally, there are some web-sites out there that correspond to SOTW series books that allow you to create lapbooks for free along with free time-line type visuals.
